Horsey McHorseface hits big time again: Cessnock winner; Joao Moreira wins in wild run

IT’S official: the Australian racehorse who earned worldwide acclaim, Horsey McHorseface, is finally a winner.

Trained by Bjorn Baker, the three-year-old with the most unusual of names broke through for his first win at just his fourth start when successful at Cessnock in country NSW on Monday.

The name Horsey McHorseface came about in a reference to Boaty McBoatface, the leading choice in a UK public poll last year to name a British research vessel.

Such was the interest in the name that the three-year-old featured on CNN last year after the media giant had earlier covered the story of the poll involving the $350 million polar research vessel.

For the record, Irish jockey Keagan and Horsey McHorseface surged late to easily win the Lathan Arthur Thompson Memorial Maiden.
