Melbourne Central station in lockdown after man stabbed

Melbourne Central station has been placed into lockdown after a man was stabbed during a violent argument on the street.

A witness said he saw two men in a heated exchange on Swanston Street in the city centre just before 2pm on Friday, before it escalated to ‘pushing and shoving’.

‘Then I heard one guy say “you dog, you had to pull out a knife” and then I saw blood,’ witness Shaun Fennell said, according to The Herald Sun.

Mr Fennell said one of the men walked inside the shopping centre after the other was stabbed and police have blocked off the lower levels.

The injured man was rushed to hospital by paramedics with stab wounds to his upper body.

Blood splatter can be seen on Swanston Street footpath and paramedics remain on the scene.

Victoria Police said the men are believed to be known to each other.
