2 women face life in prison after they are ‘caught with 9kg of meth at Perth Airport

Two Australian and Sierra Leone dual nationals face life imprisonment after nine kilograms of meth was allegedly found in their luggage.

The women, identified by their last names Koroma, 28, and Fofana, 20, were stopped at Perth Airport on Sunday night after they got off a flight from Qatar.

Border Force agents x-rayed their bags and allegedly discovered anomalies in the lining of both their suitcases, which tested positive for meth.

Further forensic testing will be conducted to determine the exact weight and purity of the substance, the Australian Federal Police said.

Both women were charged with drug trafficking and appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday.

‘We continue to see criminals attempt to import illicit drugs into our community,’ AFP manger of crime operations, Acting Commander Paul Hopkins, said.

‘This result is evidence that the strong partnerships between the AFP and its law enforcement and border protection partners are successful in detecting and disrupting criminal activity in the aviation environment.’
