Police officer in hospital after samurai sword attack

A police officer is recovering in hospital after being attacked with a samurai sword in Perth’s southern suburbs.

The incident happened about 5:30pm on Wednesday at a house on Parkin Street in Rockingham.

The officer, who is believed to be in his mid 50s, received a deep wound to his head and was taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital.

Police said a man had been taken into custody and the sword seized as evidence.

A hospital spokesperson said the officer was in a stable condition.

No further details were immediately available.
