Search on for missing Australian hiker after boyfriend found dead in Canada

Canadian search and rescue teams will continue looking for Australian Sophie Dowsley around the lake and waterfall that has a history of fatalities.

Grave fears are held for Australian hiker Sophie Dowsley after the body of her boyfriend was found in a beautiful but remote and treacherous lake in Canada.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed on Wednesday that dive teams found Greg Tiffin’s body in Statlu Lake, British Columbia.

Mr Tiffin, a 44-year-old Canadian, and Ms Dowsley, 34, from Melbourne, set out for their day hike on July 8.

Their vehicle was found four days later and a search also located personal items on a rock at the top of Statlu Falls.

The search continues for Ms Dowsley.

“All search resources remain engaged as we continue to look for the missing woman,” RMCP Corporal Mike Rail said.

“RCMP remain in close contact with the victim’s and missing woman’s families.”

Ms Dowsley had been living in Canada for about three years.

Statlu Lake is about three hours drive east of Vancouver and is renowned for its beauty, although the wilderness is remote and the trail challenging for experienced hikers.

The waterfall has a history of deadly incidents.

Ms Dowsley’s family members immediately flew to Canada when they were alerted she was missing and helped with the search.

“It’s the worst possible nightmare that you could imagine,” Ms Dowsley’s father, Peter, told Canada’s CTV News…
