100 firefighters now battling blaze at London’s historic Camden Lock Markets engulfed by fire

One of the world’s most famous markets has gone up in flames.

The London Fire Brigade was called to Camden Lock Market close to midnight local time.

They have confirmed on their Facebook page:

“Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters and officers have been called to a fire in Camden Lock Market.

A building within the market is alight and part of its first, second and third floors are affected by the fire, as well as part of its roof.

The Brigade’s Emergency Control Officers have taken multiple calls to the highly visible blaze and people are asked to avoid the area.

The Brigade was called at 2357. Crews from Kentish Town, Euston, Soho, Paddington and Holloway fire stations are at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.”

Up to 28 million people visit Camden Lock each year and it was one of London’s first crafts and antiques markets.
