Swans take Sydney bragging rights as Adelaide reclaims top spot

The Swans has taken down GWS in the Battle of the Bridge, while Adelaide continued its resurgence against Melbourne to wrap up Saturday AFL action.

Earlier, Patrick Dangerfield dominated another classic Cats-Hawks clash, Port Adelaide easily handled the Kangaroos, and Collingwood eased some of the pressure on coach Nathan Buckley by beating the Suns.

Swans top dog in Sydney once again

Sydney belongs to the Swans for a little while longer after they edged the Giants in their derby showdown.

It was the Swans who held their nerve in a tight affair at the Sydney Showgrounds, to eventually win 14.12 (96) to 12.11 (83)

After GWS shot out of the gates, the game settled into a pattern of the Swans taking about a two-goal lead, but never managing to really break away.

After the Swans took a 13-point lead into the final term, Giants veteran Steve Johnson slotted the first major of the quarter to close the gap to seven, with Jonathon Patton’s point cutting it to a one-goal difference.

But 13 straight Swans points, thanks to goals to Lance Franklin and Tom Papley, gave them a buffer.

From that point on, neither side managed to kick consecutive goals, with former Swan Shane Mumford booting a pair in the last stanza, and Lance Franklin ultimately finishing with four majors.
