Recycling plant fire broke out hours before planned inspection at Coolaroo

Inspection was scheduled at plant on the same morning fire broke out.

Authorities claim they were poised to act over fire safety concerns at the Coolaroo recycling plant only hours before a massive new blaze broke out at the facility.

It can also be revealed that the facility’s operator is facing court after a worker lost a hand in an incident in 2014.

The Environment Protection Authority is concerned about the Coolaroo site and others like it due to the risk they pose to the community if not properly managed.

The EPA was expected to draft notices demanding operators SKM Services take action to reduce fire risks after an inspection planned for 10am on Thursday…
