Melb poaches 200 Chinese golf buggy jobs – smart wheel push golf buggies into electric ones

While manufacturing work moving overseas is par for the course, Victoria has smacked a hole-in-one by poaching 200 golf buggy jobs from China.

Concourse Golf is moving 198 jobs from China and its head office from Sydney to create its new Australian headquarters in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong.

“This is a great coup for Melbourne which will generate just under 200 new full-time equivalent jobs,” state Industry Minister Wade Noonan told reporters on Tuesday.

The company makes smart wheels – self-contained units that convert manual push golf buggies into electric ones by changing the wheels.

The technology could change the way electric golf buggies operate and could potentially be applied to a range of other industries, including health and logistics.

Mr Noonan said the Victorian government chipped in to land Concourse’s move to Melbourne.

“We are in a competitive global market. These jobs could go anywhere,” he said.
