Australia to ban laptops on international flights?

Australia is considering banning laptops on inbound international flights amid global concerns about a fresh terror threat involving bombs in computers.

The UK and US have already banned large electronic devices in cabins on flights arriving from certain Middle East and African countries.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has this week indicated Australia may now follow in the footsteps of the two nations by imposing similar bans.

‘In due course, any announcements will be made formally though the Transport Minister.’

The federal government is considering information and advice ‘we are receiving internationally and working very closely with our partners,’ he said.

It follows fresh intelligence militant groups like ISIS could be gearing up for a terrorist attack involving bombs in laptops.

The US and Britain banned laptops in cabins on flights from a number of Muslim-majority countries in response to unidentified security threats in March.

US agencies are now looking at plans plans to expand the ban to other countries with conflict zones.

It comes as President Donald Trump faces explosive allegations that he revealed top secret intelligence about the laptop threat to Russian diplomats in the Oval Office.

The White House has vehemently denied the reports and said Mr Trump only discussed ‘common threats’ facing the US and Russia.
