Five men smashed their way into a Melbourne with crowbars and stole as much as they could carry while the terrified owner cowered in a back room.
The masked thugs shattered the locked glass door of Jafari Jewellery in on Bourke Road in Malvern East just before noon on Thursday.
They broke open cabinets to steal the valuable pieces before fleeing in a silver BMW.
‘They just smashed the glass and came inside smashing everything with steel bars,’ he said on a call to 3AW radio.
Mr Jafari said he’d owned the store for three years and was never robbed before. He said police would use CCTV and the car’s licence plate to track them down.
It is the latest in a string of similar violent smash-and-grab Melbourne jewellery store robberies, and the second in two days.
On Tuesday a shop in Mulgrave was raided by masked robbers wielding axes and hammers who broke a front window to get inside.
A staff member bravely confronted the four men and was threatened with an axe during the brazen daylight robbery in a bust shopping centre.
