Five people were hospitalised after a high speed multi-car crash on the West Gate Freeway on Saturday morning.
Emergency crews attended the scene on the freeway near the Spotswood entrance after reports of the crash just after 3am.
Seven cars are believed to have collided in the early hours of Saturday morning.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said one man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.
Four more people were taken to hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.
Another man was rescued but escaped the crash uninjured.
