Jakarta governor ‘2yrs jail’ for blasphemy

Jakarta’s outgoing Christian governor has been found guilty of blasphemy and sentenced to two years in prison.

Almost five months after the controversial case began against Basuki Tjahaja Purnama – commonly referred to as Ahok – a panel of five judges from a Jakarta District Court found the 50-year-old guilty of blasphemy on Tuesday over comments he made referring to the Koran in September last year.

They further rejected the call by prosecutors to put him on probation – instead sentencing him to two years in prison.
