Cassandra Sainsbury not coping in Colombia women’s prison

Accused cocaine smuggler Cassandra Sainsbury is being taken advantage of by inmates at the notorious women’s prison in Colombia she is locked up in.

The 22-year-old has reportedly not stopped crying since she was transferred to the overcrowded and dangerous El Buen Pastor prison just over three weeks ago.

An American woman who was released from the prison on Tuesday and helped look after Cassandra on the inside said she was not coping with the horrific conditions.

‘Because she is so young there are a lot of people trying to take advantage of her,’ the woman told the Daily Telegraph.

Not only that, when she was at the police station they took most of her stuff — all of her clothes, her money,’ the former inmate told the publication.

‘She’s just wearing a sweater and pants and a top, the same ones. I offered her something but she said no thank you.’

The woman advised her not to make too many friends or trust anyone on the inside.

Ms Sainsbury is reportedly sharing a tiny cell with one other woman.
