Aldi Australia to sell bottles of wine for only $2.79 WA store

Aldi Australia has been approved to sell bottles of wine for as little as $2.79 at a store in Perth.

The German supermarket’s Harrisdale store was given the green light to sell the dirt-cheap alcohol despite initial rejections over its wine retailing for less than $3.

Three varieties of wine will be sold at the WA outlet for the low price – but police have warned it could prompt people to drink more and increase alcohol-fuelled crime.

‘It impacts family and domestic violence, anti-social and other criminal behaviour and only time will tell whether there is an impact from this latest court decision.’

However the Liquor Commission of Western Australia found the social risks of the Harrisdale store selling cheap alcohol to be minimal.

‘The locality is not experiencing alcohol related harm at rates higher than other areas,’ it stated.
