NSW braces for ‘worst thunderstorms of the season’ Heavy rain, flash flooding and giant hail

Flash flooding, heavy downpours and ‘large hail’ are expected to wreak havoc on large parts of central and northern New South Wales on Monday.

Meteorologist Rob Sharpe warned that the state could experience ‘some of the worst thunderstorms of the season’ with hail bigger than 5 centimetres.

Two fans crushed to death at concert attended by 300,000

At least two people died last night at an Indio Solari concert at La Colmens in the Buenos Aires, Argentina, town of Olavarría, when crowds of 300,000 began pushing toward the stage.

Two victims – both men – have been confirmed, while local reports say that the death toll may be higher. One of the men was crushed to death, while the other died of cardiac arrest, local reports say.

The men have not been publicly named, but it is believed that neither of them are from Olavarría and that one of them is 42 years old.

Four Perth Nando’s stores fined over Food Act breaches

IT may be Justin Bieber’s spicy chicken of choice when he’s in town but there are now four Perth Nando’s stores on the WA Health Department’s list of Food Act offenders.

The Belmont store – where pop superstar Bieber shocked on-lookers by dining last week – was fined $20,000 in February for failing to maintain premises and equipment to appropriate standards of cleanliness.

And it has been joined on the list by the Northbridge store for four breaches, including failing to take all measures to prevent the entry of pests and then eradicate them.

The Spearwood and Nedlands Nando’s stores remain on the list for Food Act convictions last year.

The most recent name on the offenders’ list is Austone Foods, which was fined a total of $175,000 after City of Gosnells officers found it in breach of a variety of standards.

Austone’s director Ming Wu also copped a $100,000 penalty over contamination prevention, pest, cleanliness and garbage storage issues.

Plans for a massive Donald Trump real estate development in a spiritually sensitive part of Bali have met resistance from locals, some of whom are refusing to sell to the US President’s Indonesian business partner.

Hary Tanoesodibjo’s MNC group has been buying up land around the existing Nirwana resort at Tanah Lot, a relatively undeveloped area about an hour’s drive north of the main tourist strip at Kuta.

Demolition of the old resort is due to start in August, ahead of a three-year redevelopment that will be partly operated by the Trump group.

New York US Attorney Preet Bharara’s defiant exit, first announced on Twitter, raised questions about President Donald Trump’s ability to fill top jobs throughout his government.

Mr Trump has yet to put forward any candidates to serve as the nation’s 93 district attorneys, but his Justice Department asked the 46 who have not yet quit to hand in their resignations on Friday.

Elon Musk, Malcolm Turnbull in talks on renewables after billionaire’s ‘100 days or it’s free’ pledge

Malcolm Turnbull says he has held a great in depth discussion with Elon Musk, after the billionaire tech entrepreneur offered to fix South Australia’s energy problems within 100 days.

On Friday, Mr Musk said energy storage could solve the state’s electricity problems with a Tesla battery farm, and work could be completed within 100 days, or it would be free.

He followed that up in talks with South Australia’s Premier Jay Weatherill, later tweeting that he was impressed by the State Government’s commitment to a “smart, quick solution”.

Twitter was again the preferred medium of communication on Sunday, with Mr Musk and Mr Turnbull swapping appreciative tweets after speaking for nearly an hour.

Economy top priority for new WA premier

A smiling and relaxed Mr McGowan fronted the media on Sunday, just hours after leading Labor to a landslide win over the two-term Barnett Liberal government.

“It’s one of those happy surprises in life that sometimes comes along,” he said of winning about 40 of the 59 seats.

“I think the scale of the swing shows how people really wanted a fresh start and a change.”

But Mr McGowan was focused on how his government would tackle the challenges ahead.

“We have a serious financial situation in Western Australia and a serious economic situation,” he told reporters in his home suburb and electorate of Rockingham.

“We’ll go through budget and cut out any wasteful expenditure.”

Unvaccinated children WILL be banned from preschools

Unvaccinated children will be banned from being enrolled in childcare centres and preschools across Australia. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull wants to close state loopholes.

All of us desperately want to protect our children and our grandchildren and other people’s children,’ he said.

‘If you don’t vaccinate your child you are not only putting their own life at risk, but you are putting everyone else’s children at risk.’

The prime minister wants the issue of nationally-consistent vaccination laws discussed at the next Council of Australian Governments meeting of state premiers and territory chief ministers in Canberra.

The announcement comes a week after Mr Turnbull slammed One Nation leader Pauline Hanson for likening the federal government’s ‘no jab, no pay’ policy to a dictatorship.
