An Australian man has reportedly died on his descent from the base camp of Mount Everest.
The Melbourne man had reached Mount Everest’s base camp – a 5300 metre ascent – when he became ill last Thursday night, according to The Age.
It is believed he was with three other Victorians when they started their descent back down the mountain on Friday morning, but the man died on the way down.

Tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were forced to work for $1 day, or for nothing at all — a violation of federal anti-slavery laws — a lawsuit claims.
The lawsuit, filed in 2014 against one of the largest private prison companies in the country, reached class-action status this week after a federal judge’s ruling. That means the case could involve as many as 60,000 immigrants who were detained detainees.
It’s the first time a class-action lawsuit accusing a private U.S. prison company of forced labor has been allowed to move forward.
“That’s obviously a big deal; it’s recognizing the possibility that a government contractor could be engaging in forced labor,” said Nina DiSalvo, executive director of Towards Justice, a Colorado-based nonprofit group that represents low-wage workers, including undocumented immigrants. “Certification of the class is perhaps the only mechanism by which these vulnerable individuals who were dispersed across the country and across the world would ever be able to vindicate their rights.”
They’re synonymous with the X-Men film series.

Two men are dead after drowning in a suburban lake.
The pair had been swimming in the lake at Redleap Reserve at Mill Park in Melbourne’s north on Sunday and were last seen about 6.30pm.
Emergency services were alerted and police and paramedics raced to the scene.
Police divers searched frantically for the pair.
One body was dragged from the water at 9.20pm and the other was found shortly after.

Air India says it has set a world record by flying around the world with an all-female crew.
Press Trust of India reported on Sunday that the flight flew over the Pacific Ocean from New Delhi to San Francisco last Monday, and then flew back to New Delhi over the Atlantic on Friday.
Apart from the all-female cockpit and cabin crew, the other staff involved in the flight – including the check-in and other ground staff and the air traffic controllers – were all women.
According to the news report, Air India, the country’s state-owned carrier, has applied to Guinness World Records to be recognised for the feat.
The flight was part of celebrations for International Women’s Day, which falls on Wednesday.

For years we have been told to cut down on our salt intake, but one health expert has now said we need to eat MORE salt.
Professor Salim Yusuf has argued that eating less than three grams of salt per day is worse for your health and can increase the risk of heart failure.
The professor, who stepped down from the role of president of the World Health Federation earlier this year, disagreed with current health advice given by Public Health England, which says to eat no more than six grams of salt per day.
‘It is futile to target such low intakes and, moreover, it may well be harmful. Studies show below about three grams of sodium per day there is increased mortality, heart attack and heart failure,’ he told the Sunday Express.

The state of Arkansas plans to put to death eight inmates over a span of 10 days next month, a pace of executions unequaled in recent American history and brought about by a looming expiration date for a drug used by the state for lethal injections.
The eight men facing execution — four black and four white — are among 34 death row inmates in Arkansas, where capital punishment has been suspended since 2005 over legal challenges and difficulty in acquiring the drugs for lethal injections.
All eight men were convicted of murders that occurred between 1989 and 1999, and proponents of the death penalty and victims’ rights in the state have been frustrated that the cases have dragged on so long.
At a news conference this week, Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican and former federal prosecutor, seemed to regret that the executions were so closely stacked.
