Switzerland landslide: Eight missing in Val Bondasca region

Eight people are missing following a landslide in south-eastern Switzerland, police say.

The landslide on Wednesday forced the evacuation of some villages in the Val Bondasca region, officials said.

German, Austrian and Swiss citizens are among those missing, Graubünden cantonal police said in a statement.

Pictures from the scene show rocks and debris scattered across roads. A helicopter is helping in the search and rescue operation, Swiss media report.

The landslide happened at about 09:30 local time (07:30 GMT) on Wednesday when boulders and earth cascaded down the side of the Piz Cengalo mountain, the Engadiner Post newspaper reported.

The village of Bondo was among hamlets in the path of the debris and about 100 people from there were evacuated, it said.

Residents are not allowed to return until further notice, the report added.

Hikers staying in mountain huts were airlifted to safety.

Police said that despite searches eight people were unaccounted for, six of whom had been reported missing by relatives.

‘Pharma Bro’ Martin Shkreli found guilty of securities fraud

Prosecutors call Martin Shkreli – who added more than $700 to the price of a HIV drug overnight – “a con man who stole millions”.

Martin Shkreli, who found infamy after he hiked the price of a life-saving drug by hundreds of dollars, has been convicted of securities fraud.

The former pharmaceutical company CEO – once dubbed “the Most Hated Man In America” – was found guilty on three of the eight counts after a month-long trial.

Shkreli was accused of duping investors into putting money in two failing hedge funds. Prosecutors said he claimed one fund contained $40m (£31m) when there was just $300 in it.

He also lied to investors about his record with such funds and falsely told them they were low risk, prosecutors said.

Prosecutor Jacquelyn Kasulis said the trial “exposed Martin Shkreli for who he really is – a con man who stole millions”.

But outside the court, Shkreli said he was “delighted to report” that he had been acquitted of “the most important charges”.

The 34-year-old thanked his defence saying he is “the greatest lawyer on the planet”.

In closing arguments, Ben Brafman argued some investors had admitted during the trial that partnering with Shkreli was “the greatest investment I’ve ever made”.

HUNDREDS of football fans were injured, two critically, after a false alarm led to stampede with reports of 600 people injured.

Thousands of panicked Juventus fans fled from the fanzone in a Turin piazza in panic after mistaking firecrackers for an explosion.

Footage showed panicked fans fleeing from the area where a big screen was showing the clash with Real Madrid.

Fans were seen been with flares and fireworks earlier in the night.

Bloodied and injured people were seen being carried from the packed zone in San Carlo Square.

BREAKING flight evacuated after bomb threat at Heathrow

Passengers have been hauled off a flight from Dubai to Heathrow following a bomb threat.

The plane had just began to taxi away from the jetway when it screeched to a halt and  the entire aircraft was evacuated after a last-minute security alert.

The captain on the flight then verified with passengers that a bomb threat had been received and, following the terror attack in Manchester, Virgin was putting the safety of its customers first.

One passenger on the plane told MailOnline that the plane was fully boarded and was about to take off, when all staff suddenly had to spring into action.

‘We were just moving and then the captain called his flight crew immediately and they all ran up the front,’ they said.

‘Ten minutes later we were told to get off.

They added: ‘The captain just came out and said Virgin take the safety of passengers very seriously – following the events in Manchester, Virgin had received a bomb threat so as precaution they have asked everyone to leave the plane.’

Passengers are now undergoing full body scans before they are allowed back onto the plane.

However, the mood in the airport is tense, with some passengers refusing to get back on and demanding they switch flights.

The passenger said: ‘Someone said they saw a bomb disposal truck and said it out loud, but it wasn’t. It was just a normal fire truck.

‘Everyone’s a bit on edge.’

A Virgin Atlantic spokesman said: ‘Our customers travelling on the VS401 from Dubai to London Heathrow have temporarily disembarked the aircraft for additional security checks.

‘This is purely as a precautionary measure as the safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority and we’re planning to have everyone on their way as quickly as possible.’

Iraqi soldiers have discovered a bomb factory used by ISIS in Mosul featuring an armoured garbage truck painted in red to fool US spy planes.

Iraqi soldiers found two cars ready to be loaded with explosives and an armoured plated garbage truck destined to be used in suicide missions.

Government troops made the terrifying discovery in the Josah district as they advanced into the western half of the city, where hundreds of thousands are still trapped under the terror group’s control.

‘These two car bombs were under construction and were almost ready to be loaded with explosives to be used against us, but Daesh didn’t have time to deploy them before we liberated the area,’ Heider, a soldier with Iraq’s elite Rapid Response Division (ERD), told MailOnline.

The professor, who stepped down from the role of president of the World Health Federation earlier this year, disagreed with current health advice given by Public Health England, which says to eat no more than six grams of salt per day.

‘It is futile to target such low intakes and, moreover, it may well be harmful. Studies show below about three grams of sodium per day there is increased mortality, heart attack and heart failure,’ he told the Sunday Express.
