Gunman pulls pistol on Domino s worker in Queensland
It started out as a customer complaint but turned quickly into something more violent and terrifying.
Philip Willich will spend a year in jail after pointing a gun at the Cairns Domino’s worker’s head.
He went to the store to ask for a discount, but didn’t have a voucher.
When his request is denied he circles the 25-year-old worker for four minutes, waving his gun around.
Then with a pizza in one hand and a pistol in the other he forces the man onto his knees and aims at him execution-style.

Work stops after bones found at #PERTH city building site
Seven News has confirmed the bones appeared to be buried at the WA Museum site in Northbridge.
It is unclear where on the site the bones were found and whether or not they are human remains.
It does appear the bones have been at the site for a number of years.
The construction site was shut down temporarily after the discovery was made on Wednesday.
If the bones turn out to be human, the police forensic experts will be called in to investigate.

Nicole Kidman has a winner with The Beguiled; a sexually-charged psychodrama.
That’s been the case since her debut with the wistful The Virgin Suicides, through Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, Somewhere and to The Bling Ring.
It’s her fascination with these emotionally-isolated female characters on the cusp of womanhood that has led to accusations against Coppola as being kind of one-note, even if her films are, undoubtedly, technical marvels that are beautiful to look at.
In her defence, a lot of filmmakers have a narrow field of interest, not everyone aspires to Kubrickian genre-hopping.
So if you’re a fan of Coppola’s work, her perspective and her voice, you’ll love The Beguiled. If you’ve found her movies grating or only really responded to Lost in Translation, her most accessible film, then this might not be for you.

WA Health service has second high-profile departure with PMH chief resignation
Western Australia’s children’s health service has experienced its second high-profile departure within months of a damning report calling for leadership change, with Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) executive director Michelle Dillon resigning to “pursue other opportunities”.
Ms Dillon’s resignation following on the heels of health chief Frank Daly’s exit last month and the release of a report revealing “genuine issues” with morale at the hospital.
In the report, 90 per cent of the 200 staff interviewed said the hospital was a “very unhappy place to work” and about 10 per cent wanted to resign.
The woman who took over from Mr Daly, Robyn Lawrence, said in an advisory seen by the ABC that Ms Dillon had played “a vital role in the executive of the hospital, successfully guiding her team through various changes and challenging times”.
Ms Dillon is on annual leave and will formally depart on July 31.

Paris and Los Angeles set to get 2024 and 2028 Olympics
The International Olympic Committee voted unanimously Tuesday to break with tradition and award two games at once.
Paris and LA are the only competitors left for 2024. But it’s been clear since early this year that the IOC is leaning toward awarding the next two games at the same time, to streamline the selection process and provide greater financial stability to the games.
Hosting a modern Olympics practically guarantees massive debt and cost overruns, and many cities have abandoned bids recently. Researchers at Oxford’s Saïd Business School estimate the cost overrun for the 2016 Summer Olympics, in Rio de Janeiro, was $1.6 billion.
“Brazil is not a unique case. All summer and winter games that we’ve studied have shown cost overruns,” wrote Bent Flyvbjerg, the lead researcher. “For a city and country to host the games is a huge undertaking and one of the most costly and financially risky megaprojects they can undertake.”

Six flee burning home in Sydney’s west
Six people have escaped a home that was engulfed by flames in Sydney’s west.
All of them got out of the Chester Hill house without injury when the blaze started in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Firefighters contained the fire to the rear of the building but not before it caused about $250,000 damage.

Perth man checks in Emu Export can as luggage on Melbourne flight
A Perth man, who asked to remain nameless, said the greatest moment of his life was when he checked in an Emu Export can as luggage on a flight from Perth to Melbourne on Saturday – and it came out the other end unharmed.
Defying what most of us could believe to be possible, the can came out on the conveyer belt exactly as it went in, with the travel tag around it.
It even came out well before the rest of the flight’s luggage.
Now that’s what we call export…

ATO staffer’s how-to guide to hack phones, turned off and the SIM card isn’t inside
Labor leader Bill Shorten has described the leaking of a guide to hack mobile phones by a public servant as a “very serious matter.”
The Australian Tax Office staffer published instructions to bypass phone passwords and obtain data on the social networking site LinkedIn, the ABC reports.
The instructions would allow hacking of the phone even if its battery was flat or it didn’t have a SIM card.
“We need to get briefings and find out what has gone on here,” Mr Shorten told reporters in South Australia on Wednesday.
“Obviously it is a very serious matter.”
The staffer involved has since been disciplined but the ABC reports the company cited in the hacking guide is the same one that reportedly helped the FBI break into the San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone, Cellebrite.
Tenders show the Australian Federal Police paid the company $160,000 for the supply of a software annual license.
It also shows the ATO paid the firm $42,000 for an analyst to train staff on the software in Melbourne.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is pushing for legislation to allow encrypted messages on phones to be obtained.
The ATO has been contacted for comment.
