World leaders call for unity after London attack. Trump tweets the complete opposite: WP

Most world leaders who said anything in the early confusion of Saturday’s attack were circumspect and sympathetic. And then there was President Trump.

In the early confusion of Saturday’s attack in London, as police urged people not to spread rumors, those world leaders who did speak out early were largely circumspect. Restrained. Sympathetic.

“My thoughts go out to the victims and their loved ones,” French President Emmanuel Macron said on Twitter. “Awful news,” wrote Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau the same evening, adding, “We’re monitoring the situation.”

And then there was President Trump.

Before London police or anyone else had announced that the attack was linked to terrorism — the president of the United States retweeted an unsourced blurb from Drudge.com: “Fears of new terror attack after van ‘mows down 20 people’ on London Bridge.”

London authorities at that point had confirmed only a few details. Shortly after the Drudge tweet, British police again warned against spreading unconfirmed information.

Fifteen minutes later, Trump issued his second tweet since the attack — promoting his administration’s legally embattled “travel ban,” which hinders people from several Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.

Ben Cousins drugs: ex girlfriend Maylea Tinecheff says he will die if he doesn’t kick addiction

Maylea Tinecheff, who also is the mother of his two children, told Channel Seven’s Sunday Night program last night that he “doesn’t get how unwell he is”.

“It’s got to a point now, where if this continues on Ben will die, and his children need him,” Ms Tinecheff said.

“To be a parent you can’t just love your child. Love’s about sacrifices, especially for a child, and you have to do what’s right for them. He’s chosen drugs over everything…”

Pauline Hanson’s anti-Islam post in wake of London attack slammed by Bill Shorten

Federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has lashed out at Pauline Hanson after the One Nation leader used the London attacks to renew her call to stop Muslims from immigrating to Australia.

Senator Hanson took to social media in the immediate aftermath of the attack to say “stop Islamic immigration before it is too late”.

It was accompanied by a graphic mimicking the “Run, Hide, Tell” emergency message released by British police earlier in the day.

UK police were telling people to run to a safe place and hide if they were caught up in a terror attack, before calling emergency services.

One Nation’s graphic recasts that slogan as a call for a sweeping immigration overhaul.

“Panic and dread” gripped Saturday night revellers as the London terror attack unfolded, says Australian federal senator Sam Dastyari, who is in the British capital.

Senator Dastyari was “having a quiet meal” in a restaurant in Borough, near London Bridge, as attackers ploughed a van into crowds on the bridge and then got out and stabbed bystanders, before targeting people in nearby restaurants and bars.

“We heard screaming — You could obviously tell there was an incident and someone starts running past, obviously covered in blood, kind of down the street,” Senator Dastyari told ABC News.
