Nigeria says it has foiled a plot by ISIS-linked Boko Haram militants to attack British and United States embassies.
Five suspected members of the Islamist militant group based in Benue state, in the country’s middle belt, have been arrested over plans to strike the two consulates in the capital Abuja.
Police say the terror cell had ‘perfected plans’ to attack the two headquarters and ‘other western interests’.

After Borussia Dortmund’s team bus was rocked by three explosions on Tuesday ahead of their Champions League game with Monaco, German newspaper Bild have paid tribute to the German club.
In Wednesday’s edition of Bild, the paper dedicated a full page to the club by covering it in a sea of yellow, with ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone!’ capped up and their club badge printed on as well.
Thomas Tuchel’s squad were travelling to the Westfalenstadion for their quarter-final Champions League first-leg clash against high-flying Monaco when the bus was targeted.
Defender Marc Bartra required surgery after suffering a broken bone in his wrist after catching fragments of glass in his arm when a window on the bus shattered as the Bundesliga side’s bus left their hotel ahead of the tie.
Dortmund have now confirmed that Bartra’s operation was successful as club president Reinhard Rauball told n-tv: ‘We have heard that everything went well.’
Despite being rocked by the terrible incident on Tuesday evening, Dortmund, who sit fourth in the Bundesliga, were back in training the next morning ahead of the game rescheduled game on Wednesday against Leonardo Jardim’s side.

Six Russian aircraft seen close to Japanese airspace forced fighter jets to be scrambled today, according to reports in Tokyo.
Japanese defence forces first reacted after two Tu-95 Bear strategic bombers were seen close to the Pacific Ocean.
Soon afterwards two Russian Ilyushin Il-38 fighter jets were sent out to Hokkaido, which is Japan’s most northern island, NHK reported today.
The same day two anti-submarine aircraft, the Tupolev Tu-142 were deployed by Russia to the Sea of Japan, while two aircraft, believed to be the fighter jets, made a u-turn close to Tokyo after crossing the Pacific Ocean.
They then returned to Russian territory, it has been reported, and the Japanese military said the aircraft did not trespass into its territory.
The alert comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region, after Japanese Prime Minister described a North Korean missile test as a grave threat to the region.

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso will miss the Monaco Grand Prix in May so he can race in the Indianapolis 500.
The double world champion has the full approval and support of McLaren and engine partner Honda, who are having a difficult season in Formula 1.
Alonso, 35, will race for the Honda-powered Andretti team on 28 May, and the car will be branded a McLaren.
McLaren are yet to decide who will replace him in Monaco that weekend, but Jenson Button is a possibility.
The 2009 world champion has retired from F1 but is contracted to McLaren as an ambassador. It is not known whether the Briton would want to come back to drive an uncompetitive car.
Alonso said he had long held an ambition to win the so-called ‘triple crown’ of Monaco, the Indy 500 and Le Mans.
Only one man has won all three in his career – the late Graham Hill in the 1960s.
Alonso, who won the Monaco Grand Prix in 2006 and 2007, said: “It’s a tough challenge, but I’m up for it.
“I don’t know when I’m going to race at Le Mans, but one day I intend to. I’m only 35. I’ve got plenty of time for that.
The Spaniard added he would definitely race for McLaren for the rest of the season, dismissing speculation he could quit part way through the year because of the Honda F1 engine’s poor performance.
“It’s of course a regret that I won’t be able to race at Monaco this year,” he said. “But Monaco will be the only 2017 grand prix I’ll be missing, and I’ll be back in the cockpit for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in early June.
“I’ve never raced an IndyCar car before, and neither have I ever driven on a super-speedway, but I’m confident I’ll get to grips with it fast.
“I’ve watched a lot of IndyCar action on TV and online, and it’s clear that great precision is required to race in close proximity with other cars on the far side of 220mph [354km/h].”

People are so keen to see Chris Hemsworth’s short hair and Jeff Goldblum’s turn as The Grandmaster the trailer has broken records.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Thor: Ragnarok has become Disney’s most-watched trailer within 24 hours, having been viewed around the world 136 million times.
That huge milestone beats Beauty and the Beast — Disney’s previous record holder having been watched 127.6 million times — and Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War’s 94 million views.
However, Thor: Ragnarok still falls behind overall record holder Stephen King’s It, which was viewed 197 million times within a day.

ISIS is now cutting the ears off fighters who try and flee from battle, it is reported.
The terror group removed one ear from 33 soldiers caught fleeing the battle in Mosul, their last stronghold in Iraq, a source told Alsumaria News.
The men had been imprisoned before the punishment was carried out, and were told the other ear would be removed if they tried to flee a second time.
Typically deserters from the extremist group are executed, but the source said the terrorists are having to opt for less extreme punishments because they are running out of fighters.
ISIS once controlled around 40 per cent of Iraq, but that has now been whittled down to just 7 per cent, according to joint operations commander Brigadier General Yahya Rasool.

A Current Affair senior reporter Ben McCormack has been admitted to an ‘institution’ for mental health treatment since his shock arrest over a child pornography charge, a court has heard.
The Nine Network journalist’s lawyer, Sam Macedone, told a Sydney court on Wednesday he did not know how long it would be before McCormack would be discharged.
Mr Macedone showed the Downing Centre Local Court a mental health services certificate on Wednesday morning in a bid to change his bail conditions.
He was successful, with the court excusing McCormack from having to report to Redfern Police Station on Mondays and Thursdays while he remains a patient…
