Toro Rosso were believed to be keen on taking a Honda power unit next season, despite having a Renault contract, while the Japanese firm wanted to add another team to their roster.
But while talks had been progressing prior to the summer break, they have now collapsed – according to Autosport. It is claimed that there were differences over financial aspects, while time was running out to come to an agreement.
And it could have big ramifications for McLaren who, were they to leave engine partners Honda next season, would only have Renault as a likely option for 2018 with Ferrari and Mercedes not willing to help the Woking team.
But Renault only want to supply three teams, and Toro Rosso’s stay would effectively close that door. (Full story – external link)
