Former AFL star Glenn Archer: fined $2000 for hitting a runner at an under-15 football game
Former AFL star Glenn Archer has been fined $2000 after pleading guilty to punching a runner during an under-15 football game despite initially claiming he merely pushed the volunteer to defend himself.
Archer, a two-time premiership player for North Melbourne, was convicted of unlawful assault, fined $2000 and agreed to pay the cost of breaking the runner’s glasses in the Heidelberg Magistrates Court on Friday.
‘Are we allowed to appeal this?’ former AFL star said before his lawyer told him sit down.

Train station evacuated in southern France
Police in the southern French city of Nimes have arrested a man unlawfully carrying a pistol into a train station, but say he is not linked to the attacks in Barcelona.
After an evacuation and police operation at the train station on Saturday night, the historic city quickly returned to normal, with police returning to their posts.
A national police spokesman said the operation began when a passenger alerted police to a man with a weapon. Police quickly found and arrested him, said the spokesman, who was not authorised to be publicly named.
The spokesman said the man has no apparent connection to Thursday’s attacks around Barcelona, about 380km southwest of Nimes. French authorities increased checks of its border with Spain after the attacks, and one suspect is believed at large.

Severe weather warning: Worst winds of the year set to hit Victoria
Batten down the hatches, it’s going to be a wild one Melbourne.
The worst winds of the year are blowing in and you’d be forgiven for momentarily thinking you were in a scene from the Wizard of Oz. Source:
Severe weather warnings have been issued for most of Victoria, with heavy rain and destructive winds predicted to reach speeds of up to 130 kilometres in some parts of the state.
If you are planning a skiing trip to the state’s Alpine region, tread with caution.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting winds averaging 80 to 90km/h with peak gusts of up to 130 km/h expected to lash the area on Saturday evening and continue well into early hours of Sunday morning.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Stuart Coombs said the wild northerly winds were caused by an extremely deep low pressure system moving in from Tasmania.
“We’re predicting the worst winds of the year so far,” Mr Coombs said. “We will see damaging winds right across the state, in some parts they may be so strong they could potentially dislodge or bring down trees.”

ISIS TRICKED US into killing 100 civilians rigging house with explosives + putting two snipers on the roof as bait
A US strike targeting Islamic State fighters in a Mosul building in Iraq killed at least 105 civilians when the blast caused ISIS weapons to explode.
US Air Force Brigadier General Matt Isler confirmed the incident on March 17 claimed the lives of at least 105 civilians – adding a further 36 remain unaccounted for.
According to Isler, Iraqi counterterrorism service troops and coalition forces were not aware civilians were in the building, and ordered an air strike.
According to reports at the time, civilians – mostly women and children – who were being used as ‘human shields’ by ISIS were killed in the blast.
One man who survived the blast told reporters: ‘The entire neighbourhood was fleeing because of missiles so people had taken refuge here.
‘I didn’t know if it was a shelter. I didn’t know we couldn’t go there. My entire family is inside, 27 people. We pulled only one of them out. We don’t know about the rest.’
Brigadier Mohammed al-Jawari told reporters in March: ‘Finding survivors is very difficult because the area is completely destroyed.
‘It’s a very big disaster, indeed we can describe it as a disaster.’
Brigadier Isler said: ‘The secondary explosion triggered a rapid failure of the structure which killed the two ISIS snipers, 101 civilians sheltered in the bottom floors of the structure and four civilians in the neighboring structure to the west.
‘An additional 36 civilians who are believed to be connected to the structure remain unaccounted for.’
The United States has previously acknowledged that it ‘probably’ had a role in the civilian deaths, but it has always said this was unintentional.
