BREAKING: ‘People are killed’ an explosion hits residents convoy being evacuated out of Syrian city of Aleppo
An explosion near a bus convoy waiting to enter the Syrian city of Aleppo killed or wounded several people on Saturday, pro-government media outlets, pro-opposition activists and a monitor reported.
The blast hit the Rashidin area on Aleppo’s outskirts, where dozens of buses carrying mostly Shi’ite residents of two villages that are being evacuated in a deal between warring sides were waiting to enter the city.
Syrian state TV said an unknown number of people had been killed and wounded.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported casualties, saying the explosion appeared to be caused by a bomb.

Hamilton is looking for his third straight pole position of the season after going quickest in Australia and China.
He is level at the top of the championship standings with Vettel. In an exciting start to the season, both have one win and one second-place finish each, with Vettel winning in Melbourne and Hamilton taking the checkered flag in Shanghai.
Although not as hot as Friday, drivers still had to deal with track temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius (99 degrees Fahrenheit) on the sweltering hot circuit located in the desert.
The session was briefly halted some 20 minutes from the end after Haas driver Romain Grosjean spun across the track and into the barriers, damaging his car’s front wing. After quick repairs, the Frenchman had the car back on track for the final few minutes.

Aussie bands Empire of The Sun/The Avalanches thrill thousands at Coachella
It’s the most iconic festival in America, drawing in hundreds of thousands of music lovers from around the world.
And Australian acts Empire of The Sun and The Avalanches were front and centre at Coachella on Friday, both performing on Day 1 of the three-day festival in Palm Springs, California.
The Australian acts were among a number of A-List bands to perform at the event on its first day, with Radiohead, The xx and Father John Misty also taking to the stage.
Australians are well-represented at the music festival, with Anna Lunoe, What So Not and Pond also in the line-up for Coachella 2017…

Chaos for thousands as passengers FAINT in huge queues to get through security at Majorca’s Palma airport
British tourists have been fainting as Spanish officials boosted security at Majorca’s Palma airport causing queues of up to 1,000 people.
Footage shows a sea of holidaymakers forced to wait in endless lines snaking through the terminal.
Passengers were told the delays were down to ‘increased security checks’.
Paramedics were put on standby to give medical assistance to anyone who was taken ill during the chaos.
The delays come amid frosty relations between Britain and Spain over the issue of Gibraltar’s sovereignty.
One passenger, Olli Astley, wrote on Twitter: ‘People passing out and huge problems at Palma Airport, staff have no clue what’s happening.’
Another said: added: ‘What is happening at Palma airport? Medics even on stand by as people were fainting.’
A Foreign Office spokeswoman told the Mirror there was ‘no evidence’ the security checks were related to the Gibraltar dispute and said the queues were down to the busy Easter weekend.

Sri Lanka rubbish dump collapse kills 10
At least 10 people, including four children, have died after a huge rubbish dump collapsed on to their homes in Sri Lanka.
The 300ft-high (91m) pile had shifted after floods and a fire, and subsequently collapsed on Friday.
At least 40 homes on the edge of the dump were destroyed, with four children aged between 11 and 15 killed.
There had been concerns over the safety of the site in Colombo, with residents demanding it be cleared.
The AFP news agency said about 800 tonnes of waste were added to the Kolonnawa dump every day, and that the government had planned to remove it…

‘Concrete evidence of collusion between Trump team and Russia’ handed to official investigation
The official investigation into relations between Donald Trump and Russia now has “specific, concrete and corroborative evidence of collusion”, it has been reported.
New evidence proves discussions took place “between people in the Trump campaign and agents of [Russian] influence relating to the use of hacked material,” a source allegedly told the Guardian.
The developments come as it has emerged that Britain’s spy agencies were among the first to alert their American counterparts to contact between members of Mr Trump’s campaign team and Russian intelligence operatives…
Fire breaks out at world-famous Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas
The hotel has nearly 4,000 rooms, making it one of the biggest in the world, and its fountain – a huge display which changes in time to music – is a tourist favourite.
Clark County Fire said the situation was “extremely difficult” due to the location of the fire and access to the location, local TV network channel KTNV reports.

US researchers discover new way to procure water from thin air
Imagine a future in which every household has an appliance that pulls water out of the air, even in dry or desert climates, using only the power of the sun.
That could be the result of a prototype developed by researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of California, Berkeley, that sucks water out of the air and stores it using nothing but sunlight and MOFs.
MOFs are metal-organic frameworks that are made from metal ions and organic compounds that form a sponge-like configuration.
What are MOFs?
- Metal-organic frameworks are crystalline compounds composed of metal ions
- MOFs have a high porosity and are thermally and mechanically stable.
- The high specific surface area exhibits selective adsorption
- MOFs are formed by reticular synthesis and there are several hundred different types
- Careful selection of MOF constituents can yield crystals of ultrahigh porosity and high thermal and chemical stability
- The interior of MOFs can be chemically altered to separate and store gas

Researchers tuned the chemical composition of a MOF to be hydrophilic, which in a powder form can not only suck up liquid water but also absorb water vapour. Their findings are reported in the journal Science.

Arizona mall shooting: 2 killed, 1 injured
An altercation at the Firebirds restaurant inside the La Encantada mall in north Tucson led to a shooting about 7:30 p.m. (local time), Pima County sheriff spokesman Cody Gress said in a news conference.
The shooting was contained to the restaurant.
Several people were in the restaurant at the time, but only a woman was injured with a gunshot to the leg. She is being treated at a local hospital.
“All three individuals were known to each other, but the specifics of the relationship are unknown,” Gress said.
Authorities said it’s unclear what the altercation was about and how it erupted into a shooting.
