Trump to leave Iraq off new travel ban order – White House source

President Donald Trump will remove Iraq from a list of countries targeted in a U.S. travel ban when he is expected to sign a new executive order on Monday after his controversial first attempt was blocked in the courts, a White House source said.

The senior White House official said the new executive order would keep a 90-day ban on travel to the United States by citizens of six Muslim-majority nations – Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

Iraq was taken off the list of countries in the original order, issued on Jan. 27, because the Iraqi government had imposed new vetting procedures, such as heightened visa screening and data sharing, and because of its work with the United States in countering Islamic State militants, the official said.

Thousands of Iraqis have fought alongside U.S. troops for years or worked as translators since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. Many have resettled in the United States following threats for working with U.S. troops.

The White House official said the new executive order, which the Republican president was expected to sign on Monday, also ensures that tens of thousands of legal permanent residents in the United States – or green card holders – from the listed countries would not now be affected by the travel ban…

Stars and Stripes in Syria: Convoy of American tanks rolls through war-torn country

The United States has deployed a column of armored personnel carriers to the northern Syrian city of Manbij to support Kurdish troops in the area.

The vehicles form part of a deployment of 500 US troops in Syria – many of whom are special forces – aimed at defeating ISIS.

According to Colonel John Dorrian, spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve, the US troops have been deployed to ‘deter aggression and keep focus on defeating ISIS’.

The US troops are supporting Kurdish PKK rebels who are heavily involve in the struggle to retake Raqqa, the ISIS capital.

Kurdish forces claim they have blocked all of the roads entering and leaving Raqqa.

However, the PKK are deemed a terrorist organisation by Turkey, who have also got troops deployed in the region.

Besides the autonomous Kurdish-led forces, Turkish, Syrian government and Syrian opposition fighters have all been jostling for territory formerly held by ISIS group near the Turkish-Syrian frontier.

The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, led by the Syrian Kurdish PKK party, are the current front runners in the race to Raqqa, the IS capital. They are now stationed five miles north of the Euphrates River city and supported by U.S.-led coalition airstrikes and a deployment of some 500 U.S. special forces operators. The Pentagon has said they are working in an advisory capacity.

Best drink ever? Coffee infused with RED WINE goes on sale – and the double helping of antioxidants could help you live longer

Best drink ever? Coffee infused with RED WINE goes on sale – and the double helping of antioxidants could help you live longer.

You might enjoy starting the day with a strong cup of coffee and rounding it off with a glass of red, but have you ever thought of joining the two together?

That magical mix-up has just occurred in Napa Valley, California, where a coffee shop took red wine from local vineyards and roasted it with coffee beans.

The end result is a rich, full-bodied coffee, which is best served with milk or chilled with ice for a bracing morning pick me up.

The brand, Molinari Private Reserve, took two and a half years to create with the help of John Weaver, a master roaster at Wild Card Roasters.

Describing the coffee on its website, Molinari said: ‘The idea of wine and coffee is not totally new.

Coffee beans have also been found to cut the risk of heart attacks and stroke in a series of scientific studies.

It should be said now though, most of the alcohol is burnt off during the roasting process so a morning cappuccino won’t get you tipsy.

Drinking excessive quantities could have an effect, but you will have to shell out, as it costs $19.95 (£16.20) for a half a pound bag.

The first stocks of the blend have already sold out and the company is roasting more as we speak.

Two other extremists were injured in the blast in Tal Afar, Nineveh Province. The house they tried to blow up belonged to an executed man. US-backed Iraqi troops took the al-Hurriya bridge in Mosul.

A source said: ‘Two members of the Islamic State were killed and two others were wounded, while planting explosives inside a house in the eastern neighborhoods of Tal Afar, west of Mosul.

‘The house belongs to a security member, who was executed two years ago by the Islamic State group.’

Earlier today, it was reported that two Iraqis had to strip down to their underwear to prove they were not carrying explosives.

US-backed Iraqi forces today took al-Hurriya bridge in the city, as the battle for Mosul wears on.

The number of people fleeing the city has reached 45,000.

the-walking-dead-12-4.jpg

The Walking Dead season seven has continued with something of a departure episode focusing largely on Rick and Michonne’s attempts to acquire weaponry for their war against The Saviours.

Instead of continuing where last week’s episode left off – Eugene seeming to have joined Negan – this week’s outing, titled ‘Say Yes,’ only features a small number of the series’ large ensemble, including Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Tara (Alanna Masterson).

Below are the episode’s five major talking points. You can read last week’s here.

Ukranian businessman with links to Donald Trump and Russia dies in unexplained circumstances

gettyimages-646777520-0.jpgA Ukranian-born millionaire businessman with links to Donald Trump has reportedly died in unexplained circumstances. Alex Oronov, a 69-year-old naturalised American citizen who ran an agricultural business in his native Ukraine, died on 2 March, according to a Facebook post by Ukranian politician Andrii Artemenko.

Mr Oronov is reported to have set up a secret meeting between Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen – to whom he had family ties – and Russian officials where a “peace plan” is said to have been hatched to give Russian President Vladimir Putin control of the Crimea.

Mr Cohen is understood to have an extensive network of personal and business relationships in the Ukranian-American community – and his associates included Mr Oronov, a partner in the ethanol business the lawyer’s brother, Bryan, set up in Ukraine.

The “peace plan” meeting brought together Mr Artemenko, Mr Cohen and Felix Sater, an American-Russian long-time business associate of Mr Trump who is reported to have ties to the Russian mafia.

Details of this meeting are believed to have ended up on the desk of Michael Flynn, Mr Trump’s former security adviser who was forced to resign last month over his alleged secret dealings with Russian officials.

IBM quantum computers, selling machines millions of times faster than anything made before

ibm.jpgIBM has taken its first step towards selling computers that are millions of times faster than the one you’re reading this on. The company has set up a new division, IBM Q, that is intended to make quantum computers and sell them commercially. Until now, quantum computers have mostly been a much hyped but long away dream. But IBM believes they are close enough to reality to start work on getting software ready for when they become commercially available.

Quantum computers rely on quantum mechanics and the bizarre behaviour of quantum bits to do calculations far faster than any computer yet known.

Most researchers agree that the theoretical machines are still years away from actually being made, despite advances towards creating a working quantum computer. But IBM says that its work has shown enough promise to get working on programming the machines.

So far, IBM has demonstrated systems that use quantum effects in small-scale demonstrations. They have taken advantage of effects like superpositioning, which means that electrons can exist in two states at the same time – behaviour that could in the future be harnessed to allow them to work in far more complex ways than the 1s and 0s that are used in today’s computers.

That work has shown enough promise that IBM executives believe such computers could soon be made commercially available, they said. As such, the software and the technologies that will be required to run on those…

‘Hadn’t laughed at an episode of Top Gear for three years. That changed tonight’

Top Gear was back for a new series last night – but all many viewers could talk about was the improvement without Chris Evans.

The BBC Two motoring show hit the screens on Sunday night with former Friends star Matt LeBlanc in the driving seat and Chris Harris and Rory Reid joining him as co-hosts.

The last series was savaged on social media, with much of the criticism levelled at Evans’s hosting style, and many wondered whether Top Gear was finished.

The Radio 2 host was nicknamed ‘Mr Shouty’ and a ‘poor man’s Clarkson’ as fans criticised his ‘no banter’ presenting style – he spent yesterday in his local park drinking from a flask.

But Sunday’s instalment, which featured a trip to Kazakhstan and an interview with Scottish actor James McAvoy, fared much better, with viewers saying on social media that it was a ‘massive improvement’ and it had made ‘a promising start’.

SPOILER! Rick Grimes and Michonne take sex-filled scavenger mission on The Walking Dead

SPOILER ALERT! Rick Grimes and Michonne take sex-filled scavenger mission on The Walking Dead

The post-apocalyptic couple survived and managed to secure a crucial arsenal of weapons and ammunition.

The cache however was only half the amount required by the Scavengers to join the Alexandrians in their campaign to eliminate Negan once and for all.

As they walked through the forest they found two men playing golf and managed to steal supplies, including much needed batteries for their walkie-talkie.

Back in the van Michonne told Rick they needed to get back but he asked her if they could stay out for a few more days.

‘We can come out again, we should get back. We don’t have to find them right now,’ she told him.
