Fremantle AFL ‘embarrassment’ stains an entire region: BOTTOM OF THE HARBOUR?

FREMANTLE’S reputation is in tatters following two 104-point defeats in a row to Richmond and Sydney.

Already out of finals contention, the Dockers’ season can’t end soon enough as they limp towards the finish line of an underwhelming 2017. The 25.5 (155) to 7.9 (51) loss to the Tigers created AFL history as it meant Fremantle had suffered the biggest losses by the same margin in consecutive games.

Veteran footy journalist Mike Sheahan slammed the 14th-placed West Australian club for being an embarrassment to the entire region.

“That’s three 100-point losses in 12 weeks, two in a row, they’re an embarrassment to an area that’s got a rich football history, and there’s something amiss there,” Sheahan said on SEN Breakfast.

“If (coach) Ross (Lyon) wasn’t contracted until 2020, and I were a board member there, I would be putting be putting his future on the table.

“It’s attitude when you get beaten by 100 points. Their second half of the season has been atrocious.”

Life was bad enough when the Swans pumped Freo 22.11 (143) to 5.9 (39) two Saturdays ago in the harbour city. Former Sydney and Melbourne coach Paul Roos was critical of the side’s attitude on that day, slamming players for not running hard enough without the ball.

But Lyon’s men clearly didn’t learn much from that shellacking and their fortunes didn’t improve in the debacle that was their defeat to the Tigers on Sunday.

Sheahan says the loss marked a deplorable low for a club that finished the 2015 home and away season on top of the ladder.

US Navy drone-killing laser weapon at the speed of light

In the sometimes hostile waters of the Persian Gulf looms the US Navy’s first — in fact, the world’s first — active laser weapon.

The LaWS, an acronym for Laser Weapons System, is not science fiction. It is not experimental. It is deployed on board the USS Ponce amphibious transport ship, ready to be fired at targets today and every day by Capt. Christopher Wells and his crew.

CNN was granted exclusive access to a live-fire test of the laser.

“It is more precise than a bullet,” Wells told CNN. “It’s not a niche weapon system like some other weapons that we have throughout the military where it’s only good against air contacts, or it’s only good against surface targets, or it’s only good against, you know, ground-based targets — in this case this is a very versatile weapon, it can be used against a variety of targets.”

LaWS begins with an advantage no other weapon ever invented comes even close to matching. It moves, by definition, at the speed of light. For comparison, that is 50,000 times the speed of an incoming ICBM.

“It is throwing massive amounts of photons at an incoming object,” said Lt. Cale Hughes, laser weapons system officer. “We don’t worry about wind, we don’t worry about range, we don’t worry about anything else. We’re able to engage the targets at the speed of light.”

Police have released CCTV images of the Manchester suicide bomber on the night of the arena attack.Police are trying to piece together Salman Abedi’s movements from 18 May when he returned to the UK through to Monday night when he launched the deadly attack.The 22-year-old last visited a city centre flat before making his way the Manchester Arena, police said.On his back a rucksack is visible, which detectives believe could have held the explosive that tore through crowds exiting the Manchester Arena.His features are partly obscured by a baseball cap and glasses.

Massive ORGAN hangs out the back of car boot in Perth

A driver who tried to squeeze a massive organ into the boot of his car has left police dumbfounded.

Officers stopped the Ford sedan in Perth on Sunday after spotting the instrument almost completely hanging out of it.

Tied down with just a few loose loops of rope, the large timber organ appeared to be far from safely secured.

Almost ruined this lovely electric piano on a glorious Sunday afternoon,’ WA Police Traffic tweeted, adding hashtags including ‘load restraint fail’ and ‘should have got a ute.’

The WA Road Traffic Code 2000 states a failure to safely secure loads constitutes a $150 fine.

A person shall not drive a vehicle that is carrying a load, if the load is placed on the vehicle in a way that makes the vehicle unstable or otherwise unsafe,’ the code states.

Objects also must not project from a vehicle in way that is likely to injure a person or damage another vehicle…
