Passenger fears as mass of sparks erupts from train, key rail line halted Melbourne

A sparking train has caused chaos on the Sandringham line, suspending all services.

Here’s all the key info about the issues on the Sandringham line:

• The line has been suspended between South Yarra and Elsternwick.
• Buses are replacing trains south of Elsternwick Station. Passengers north of Elsterwick are being asked to use an alternative form of transport.
• The cause was two malfunctioning trains, both of which are stuck between Richmond and the city. One of the trains sparked, and that damaged a nearby train.
• Passengers on the malfunctioning train had to disembark from the service.
