Tornadoes strike in Wisconsin + Oklahoma destroying hundred homes+

At least one person died and about two dozen others were injured when a tornado ripped through a trailer park near Chetek, Wisconsin at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Another tornado killed at least one person just south of Elk City, Oklahoma around 7.15pm. Officials are working to free victims who are still trapped inside their damaged homes.

Severe weather warnings were issued in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin on Tuesday, while additional tornadoes brought down utility lines in panhandle Texas.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said at least one person has died in Wisconsin, and another 25 have been injured. The deceased victim’s name has not been released.

Emergency teams are still searching the flattened Prairie Lakes Estates trailer park near Chetek after the tornado touched down in the area just after 5.30pm on Tuesday.

About 50 families were staying at the trailer park, and images from the scene show the piles of debris that were left in the wake of the tornado.

Officials are still conducting a search of the area, with Fitzgerald telling the Leader Telegram: ‘It’s a mess. It’s pretty bad.’

Chetek Mayor Jeff Martin also said several turkey barns in the area were hit hard.

Two other tornadoes touched down in Wisconsin, with one spotted four miles northwest of Chetek at 5.35pm, and another one five miles southwest of Weyerhaeuser at 6.15pm, according to the National Weather Service.

Another tornado in Elk City, Oklahoma, killed at least one person. Hail bigger than the size of golf balls pelted Sayre, about 17 miles southwest of Elk City

Another tornado struck a rural area in western Oklahoma around 7.15pm just south of Elk City, about 110 miles west of Oklahoma City.

At least one person was killed near State Highway 152 and State Highway 34. The victim’s identity has not been released, although officials said he was in a car at the time.

The Elk City Police Chief told News9 some people are still trapped inside their homes. Several cattle injures were also reported.

Fire Chaplain Danny Ringer said the storm destroyed 40 homes, with another 50 to 75 that have been damaged severely.

The storm also knocked out telephone service into and out of the city, while school officials have canceled classes for Wednesday.

Photographs taken in Sayre, Oklahoma, about 17 miles southwest of Elk City, showed hail bigger than the size of golf balls.

Other tornadoes in the eastern Texas Panhandle have downed power lines and utility poles, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The severe weather could continue into Wednesday, although a CBS meteorologist said conditions are expected to improve by Thursday.
