Logies 2017: Samuel Johnson awarded Gold Logie, John Clarke honoured

Actor Samuel Johnson was the big winner of the 59th Annual Logie Awards, taking out the Gold Logie for Best Personality on Australian Television as well the Logie for Best Actor.

Johnson won the gong for his role playing Molly Meldrum in a mini-series about the music legend’s life.

He beat The Project co-host Waleed Aly, Family Feud host Grant Denyer, Doctor Doctor star Rodger Corser and Love Child actress Jessica Marais to the coveted award.

“For the last few weeks I’ve been insisting amongst my family I’ll be called your Royal Logieness,” Johnson laughed as he accepted the award.

“I was an outlier of sorts, desperate to find my place in this world. I found my home here in this world. I found my home here in the arts, a place that celebrated difference, a place that encouraged me to be truthful, to work harder, to pursue excellence.
