BREAKING: Police ‘wounded by Islamist’ on France’s Réunion island

BREAKING NEWS: Two police ‘wounded by Islamist who shot at them while trying to resist arrest’ on the French Island of Réunion

The suspect, who is believed to be in his 20s, shot at the police officers during an arrest on Thursday, officials said.

He had refused to surrender to police and shot his rifle at two officers, wounding both of them.

Police said that they ‘controlled the assailant’ following the attack, adding that the man had ‘converted recently to Islam’.

It is currently unknown why the man was being arrested.

French officials have launched a counter-terrorism investigation into the shooting.
