Bunnings Warehouse has been forced to take its heater off the shelves after customers complained the units exploded and leaked scalding hot oil.
The hardware giant issued an urgent recall and warned owners of the Moretti 11 Fin Oil Column Heater that it may ‘rupture when turned on’.
It is believed more than 600 of the portable heaters have been sold across Australia this year.
In a statement to customers, Bunnings said: ‘Yale Prima is recalling this product due to potential safety hazard. Units may rupture when turned on and allow oil to spray out. The oil may cause scalding and burns.’
It is believed five customers complained to the hardware store over hot oil spewing from their unit.
All affected heaters have ‘Batch Code 12/16’ and ‘OLN 9532’ or ‘OLN 9539’ written on the label and were sold through Bunnings in 2017.
Customers have been instructed to stop using the heater immediately and return it to the nearest Bunnings store as soon as possible for a full refund.
Bunnings has also assured the other batch numbers of the heater model have not affected by the recall.
