Fiery crash in LA kills one and injures 10, closes freeway for 11 Hours

One person has been pronounced dead and 10 others were injured, including one in critical condition, following a chain-reaction pileup that occurred in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

A big rig apparently lost control while driving northbound on the 5 Freeway near Griffith Park and ended up in the southbound lanes, according to KTLA.

Eight vehicles were involved in the fiery crash, which occurred just before 11.00am Pacific.

Aerial footage caught smoke billowing from the scene of the wreck as firefighters raced to put out the flames engulfing the highway.

One charred big rig came to rest completely on top of a smashed silver sedan, visible as officers began to clear the scene.

Many of the vehicles involved in the inferno were unrecognizable once the smoke cleared and the fires were put out.
