YOU could be mistaken for thinking s–t has literally hit the fan in an alarming video where two portaloos took flight in a strong gust of wind in the US.Rubbish and tissues begin flying around in a suburban park and parents and children can be seen huddling on the ground for safety before one of the portable toilets slams into a nearby car and then launches into the air like something out of ‘Mary Poopins’ – an uncouth sequel.The portaloo can be seen spraying what we can only hope is washing-up water as it careens across the sky.The other portaloo then takes off, spraying liquid in the direction of park-goers who try to take cover, while a nearby marquee gets ripped out of the ground.The video was posted to Facebook on Monday and has since racked up more than one million views.

I’ve watched companies shut down their European branches because Europe’s data privacy regulations invalidate their business models. And given the number of data breaches that have occurred over the past decade, there’s a good chance that malicious hackers have my info–and if they don’t, it’s only a matter of time.

Grenfell Tower fire: Theresa May did not speak to us, angry resident tells Jeremy Corbyn

Theresa May has visited the scene of the Grenfell Tower blaze where at least 17 people died.  The Prime Minister carried out a private visit of the scene and spoke with emergency service crews but reportedly refused to meet any survivors of the tragedy and blocked media access.  The decision was taken due to “security reasons”, it was claimed, but local residents were furious that she did not stop to listen to their concerns.

One Grenfell Tower resident reportedly told Jeremy Corbyn, who also visited the scene, Ms May was “s***”, adding: “Theresa May was here but she didn’t speak to any of us.”

Qatar says fighter jets deal shows deep U.S. support

A $12 billion deal to buy Boeing F-15 (BA.N) U.S. fighter jets shows Qatar has deep-rooted support from Washington, a Qatari official said on Thursday, adding that its rift with some other Arab states had not hurt the U.S. relationship with Doha.

Qatar is facing a severe economic and diplomatic boycott by Saudi Arabia and its regional allies who cut ties last week, accusing it of funding terrorist groups, a charge Doha denies.

U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly echoed the accusations against Qatar, even as his Defense and State Departments have tried to remain neutral in the dispute among key allies. Qatar is home to the headquarters for U.S. air forces in the Middle East.

At least seven people are dead and 59 injured in China blast

At least seven people are dead and dozens injured after an explosion at a kindergarten in China.

Police said the blast struck at 4.50 pm local time on Thursday at the Chuangxin Kindergarten in the city of Fengxian in Jiangsu province.

A mobile phone camera video posted on the website of the official People’s Daily newspaper showed more than a dozen people lying motionless in front of the kindergarten’s steel sliding gate, with clothing, shoes and other items strewn on the ground beside pools of blood.

It showed ambulances arriving and medics wheeling people into an emergency room.

It wasn’t clear whether the blast was an accident or had been deliberately set. The newspaper Xiandaikuaibao on its website cited an unidentified witness as saying the explosive appeared to have been a bottle of cooking gas.

Ransomware strikes University College London

Ransomware is a form of malicious software which locks the files on a victim’s computer until they pay a ransom to the cybercriminal.

After a widespread attack targeted UCL, the institution was forced to disconnect large parts of its IT system.

It is not known how similar the malicious software is to the WannaCry ransomware which infected NHS computers in May.

The university’s information services division claimed its virus checkers did not show any suspicious activity or catch the attack.

UCL believes the malware was able to infect its systems through phishing emails – emails which contain malicious links or attachments – which a user was tricked into clicking on.

There are many reasons a virus checker could have failed to catch the phishing emails – including it not being particularly good.

MLB draft sends Aussie baseballer Robbie Glendinning from Perth to Pittsburgh Pirates

Robbie Glendinning’s baseball journey may have begun in Perth, but he is now planning to take his talents to Pittsburgh after being selected in the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft.

Glendinning, from the coastal suburb of Scarborough, started playing baseball at the age of eight with the Wanneroo Giants.

These days, the 21-year-old competes as an in-fielder at shortstop or second base, bringing big hitting and a strong throwing arm.

After a successful stint at the University of Missouri (MU), Glendinning was selected on day three of the MLB draft on Wednesday by the Pittsburgh Pirates with pick number 628.

He said the forecasts had him being drafted between rounds eight and 15, and he was nervously waiting for his name to be called when it finally happened in round 21.

“I was very anxious because I had not heard my name yet, I was kind of panicking,” Glendinning said…

Blast rocks kindergarten in China, casualties reported

An explosion rocked a kindergarten in eastern China on Thursday, injuring an unknown number of people including children, local police said.

A photo posted by Chinese media online shows several women and children sitting or lying on the ground, some bleeding. One woman is clutching her child, who is in tears.

An official at the police station in Fengxian county in Jiangsu province told AFP that the explosion was under investigation.

“There were some children injured,” the official said.

The blast occurred at the gate of the kindergarten as children were leaving the school in the afternoon, according to Xinhua, citing the emergency office of Xuzhou city.

London Fire Death Toll Rises to 17; Government Is Criticized

LONDON — Rescue workers were continuing to search for the missing on Thursday after a lethal fire in a West London apartment tower, as Prime Minister Theresa May came under pressure over whether the tragedy could have been prevented.

The fire at the 24-story Grenfell Tower killed at least 17 people and injured dozens more, and fire officials warned that the number of dead was likely to grow: Many residents of the building were still unaccounted for. As of Thursday morning, 37 people were in hospitals, including 17 in critical care.

Firefighters said on Wednesday afternoon that there was no hope of finding additional survivors, but a number of people remained unaccounted for, among them a young Italian couple who had moved to the building several months ago, the Italian media reported. The building housed people from many countries including from Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan and the Philippines…

 

WA pair killed in horror SA crash

A YOUNG man and a teenage woman, both from WA,  have died in a horrific crash in South Australia.

Emergency services were called to Augusta Highway at Lake View, in state’s Mid North, just after 12.30am on Thursday after reports a Nissan 4WD had rolled.

The driver, a 26-year-old man and a passenger, an 18-year-old woman, both from Western Australia, died at the scene.

Two other occupants, a 20-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, also from Western Australia, were airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The pair was cut from the wreckage by firefighters.

Lake View local Andrew Norris-Green woke up to a helicopter landing.

“I walked out and there was already traffic built up,” he said.

“I’m shocked, it was pretty bad.”

The silver four-wheel-drive with WA plates went off road before hitting and uprooting two trees.

The vehicle rolled onto its roof, with the most damage on the front and top of the car.

154 Mass Shootings & 6,886 Gun Deaths in 2017 in 6 months. Doesn’t even take gun suicides into account

A pair of mass shootings erupted in America Wednesday. One left the House of Representatives’ third highest-ranking GOP official, Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, critically wounded during an attack on Republican lawmakers at a Congressional baseball game practice in Virginia. (Suspect James Hodgkinson is reportedly dead.) The other, at a UPS package delivery facility in San Francisco, left four (including the alleged gunman) dead.

The violent, high-profile tragedies have understandably captured the nation’s attention. But they contribute to 154 mass shootings, 6,880 gun-related deaths, and 13,504 firearm injuries in 2017 alone, according to the watchdog group Gun Violence Archive.

The organization defines mass shootings as incidents in which four or more people (excluding the shooter) have been shot. Under slightly different metrics, the number of U.S. mass shootings could be even higher.

And this doesn’t even take gun-related suicides into account. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), more than 21,000 Americans take their lives with a firearm each year. That’s nearly half of all suicides and compares to about 11,000 annual gun homicides.

Adam Harvey, shot in neck while covering battle for Marawi in Philippines

ABC South-East Asia correspondent Adam Harvey has described the moment he was shot while on assignment in the Philippines as like being hit in the “neck with a cricket ball”.

Key points:

• People fleeing besieged Marawi City say they have seen hundreds of dead bodies

Harvey, who has been covering the battle between the Philippines military and Islamic State (IS) militants in Marawi, received medical treatment after being struck in the neck by a bullet.

The Jakarta-based correspondent said he had been on the frontline of the conflict wearing a flack jacket and helmet this morning before being moved back to “what was considered a safe zone”, where he was shot.

“I was bending down — we stopped and I opened the back door of the car to get some food and water and I felt an almighty stabbing at the side of my neck and I went down on the ground and I thought I’d been hit by a bit of shrapnel,” he told PM.

“I started bleeding and luckily we had our ABC first aid kit, so we started doing some first aid.

PM’s Trump mimicry leaked for all to see

Malcolm Turnbull tried some daring Donald Trump material when he addressed the annual Midwinter Ball in Parliament House.

The leaked material, released by press gallery member Laurie Oakes, was taken during Mr Turnbull’s off-the-record address to the annual Midwinter Ball in Parliament House on Wednesday night.

“I guess what that means is next year at the Midwinter Ball I will read selected passages from budget paper number two,” the prime minister told 3AW radio on Thursday.

“It’s a breach of protocol, it’s a breach of faith and all those things, but you know it’s lighthearted, it’s affectionate, good natured and the butt of my jokes was myself.”

During the speech, Mr Turnbull made fun of his meeting with the US president in New York in May.

“It was beautiful. It was the most beautiful putting-me-at-ease ever,” he joked.

The prime minister even does a Trump impersonation.

“The Donald and I, we are winning and winning in the polls. We are winning so much, we are winning, we are winning like we have never won before,” he says.

Mr Turnbull also makes reference to a “Russian guy” who can make online polls look much better than the “fake polls” in the mainstream media.

It’s a reference to the problems the White House is having with allegations Moscow interfered in the US presidential election last year.

Mr Turnbull hosed down concerns the footage may anger the president.

“It’s fun, you’ve got to have a laugh, we’ve got to lighten up. (It’s a) stressful business politics Tom. You’ve got to be cheerful,” he told 3AW host Tom Elliot…
