Adam Harvey, shot in neck while covering battle for Marawi in Philippines

ABC South-East Asia correspondent Adam Harvey has described the moment he was shot while on assignment in the Philippines as like being hit in the “neck with a cricket ball”.

Harvey, who has been covering the battle between the Philippines military and Islamic State (IS) militants in Marawi, received medical treatment after being struck in the neck by a bullet.

The Jakarta-based correspondent said he had been on the frontline of the conflict wearing a flack jacket and helmet this morning before being moved back to “what was considered a safe zone”, where he was shot.

“I was bending down — we stopped and I opened the back door of the car to get some food and water and I felt an almighty stabbing at the side of my neck and I went down on the ground and I thought I’d been hit by a bit of shrapnel,” he told PM.

“I started bleeding and luckily we had our ABC first aid kit, so we started doing some first aid.

Aussie killed in Bali scooter crash

A 26-YEAR-OLD Australian woman has died in Bali after police believe she fell from a scooter into a gutter on the popular tourist island.

Police said a passer-by found the woman lying face down in a gutter in Canggu, north of Kuta about 3am on Thursday.

A Honda scooter was found lying on its side nearby, the engine still running.

“The distance between the bike and the woman was around two metres,” Badung Precinct Traffic Police Chief Raka Wiratma told AAP.

She was taken to a nearby medical clinic soon after police arrived but was pronounced dead shortly after and taken to hospital.

“According to several witnesses (she) was riding the bike alone and not wearing (a) helmet,” Mr Wiratma said.

“We suspect the victim was out of control.”

The death has been reported to the Australian consulate.

Police are waiting on an autopsy for a definite cause of death.

The woman suffered bruises and wounds all over her face, said Dr Ida Alit, head of forensics at Sanglah Hospital.
