Perth Children’s Hospital delay sets stage for epic legal battle with builder John Holland

The WA Government is bracing itself for a lengthy legal battle in its bid to recoup millions of dollars from the head contractor of the Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) over long delays to the project.

Treasurer Ben Wyatt today warned the Government’s legal dispute with head PCH contractor John Holland would not be resolved any time soon, but hoped it would ultimately be settled out of court.

The hospital will not open until the first half of 2018 at the earliest, putting it more than two years behind schedule.

It is costing the state $6 million for each month the hospital remains empty, but Mr Wyatt said he was “fairly optimistic” much of those costs could be recovered.

“A lot of the delays have been due to John Holland but no doubt they will have different views along the way,” Mr Wyatt said.

“The legal dispute will go on for a while … it is large and involves a range of different things.

“My hope is that in due course it won’t end up in a long court hearing and hopefully some sort of settlement is entered into.”

Mr Wyatt indicated the legal dispute would not be resolved until the hospital opened.

Senate confirms Christopher Wray to succeed James Comey as head of FBI

Christopher Wray was confirmed Tuesday as the new director of the FBI, almost three months after President Trump controversially fired his predecessor James Comey amid the ongoing investigation into Russian election interference and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Wray’s confirmation passed by a 92-5 margin. The votes in opposition came from five Democrats, Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.; Ed Markey, D-Mass.; Jeff Merkley, D-Ore.; Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass, and Ron Wyden, D-Ore. No nominee for the position, which has required senate confirmation since 1973, has ever received more than one “no” vote.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to recommend Wray’s confirmation earlier this month.

During his testimony before the committee, Wray pledged that under his direction the agency would strive to maintain its independence, a key statement for Democrats, who noted Comey’s claim that Trump asked the former director for his loyalty. The president denied that such a request was made.

“If I am given the honor of leading this agency, I will never allow the FBI’s work to be driven by anything other than the facts, the law and the impartial pursuit of justice,” said Wray.

Blac Chyna: ‘I fell down from the blow’ …with bruises and struggling to walk

BLAC Chyna has signed a sworn statement that Rob Kardashian abused her during their relationship, which left her with bruises and struggling to walk.

The statement is part of a restraining order that Chyna filed ahead of a court hearing on Monday.

She says that Kardashian abused her both physically and emotionally during their relationship and that she was scared of him.

Kardashian posted naked pictures of Chyna on social media on Wednesday and accusing her of cheating on him with other men.

“Just sad. Loved Chyna as my wife and accepted all the wrong she did and continued to ride for her and remain Loyal to her. Never did I cheat,” Kardashian tweeted. “But she couldn’t remain loyal and cheated and f**ked way too many people and she got caught and now this is all happening and it’s sad.”

Chyna claims that Kardashian abused her in front of her four-year-old son, King Cairo.

“Rob immediately grabbed my phone and pushed me to ground by aggressively shoving me by the side of my arm and hitting me on the thigh,” Chyna said in her statement to the court.

“I fell down from the blow to my thigh and could hardly walk for a while after that. It left a bruise where he hit me,” she said.

“Rob has been violent with me in the past and I am afraid to be around him,” Chyna said in her statement.

North Korea Just Tested Rocket Engine That Could Be Used In a Long-Range Missile

North Korea has carried out another test of a rocket engine that the United States believes could be part of its program to develop an intercontinental ballistic missile, a U.S. official told Reuters on Thursday.

The United States assessed that the test, the latest in a series of engine and missile tests this year, could be for the smallest stage of an ICBM rocket engine, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

A second U.S. official also confirmed the test but did not provide additional details on the type of rocket component that was being tested or whether it fit into the ICBM program.

One official said he believed the test had taken place within the past 24 hours.

The disclosure of the engine test came a day after the United States pressed China to exert more economic and diplomatic pressure on North Korea to help rein in its nuclear and missile programs during a round of high-level talks in Washington.

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that a “major, major conflict” with North Korea is possible over its weapons programs, although U.S. officials say tougher sanctions, not military force, are the preferred option.

BREAKING: James Comey just went nuclear on Donald Trump “Holy crap” says CNN

James Comey’s written testimony regarding his interactions with President Donald Trump regarding the Russia investigation blows a massive hole in the story the president has been telling about the duo’s interactions.

It only gets worse from there for Trump in Comey’s opening statement.
Comey says that he was surprised to learn that a dinner invitation extended to him by Trump on Jan. 27 was for just the two of them (“It turned out to be just the two of us, seated at a small oval table in the center of the Green Room,” Comey writes. “Two Navy stewards waited on us, only entering the room to serve food and drinks.”) and that the goal of the meeting was “an effort to have me ask for my job and create some sort of patronage relationship.”
Twice in that meeting Trump, recounted Comey, made a direct request for loyalty from the FBI director. “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty,” Trump told Comey. Later, he returned to the subject. Here’s Comey’s recollection:
“He then said, ‘I need loyalty.’ I replied, ‘You will always get honesty from me.’ He paused and then said, ‘That’s what I want, honest loyalty.’ I paused, and then said, ‘You will get that from me.'”
Comey also confirmed in his written testimony that Trump directly asked him to “let go” of the investigation into deposed national security adviser Michael Flynn. Quoting Trump, Comey writes of the Feb. 14 meeting in the Oval Office: “I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”
I mean. Holy crap.
Then there is this, from Comey’s after-action report of that meeting: “I had understood the President to be requesting that we drop any investigation of Flynn in connection with false statements about his conversations with the Russian ambassador in December.”
While Comey noted that he did not believe Trump was asking for the entire Russia investigation to disappear, that the sitting FBI director did believe the sitting president was asking to have a federal investigation of any sort dropped is, well, stunning…
