Huge crowd pays tribute to Laeticia Brouwer at Singleton paddle-out

HUNDREDS of people have turned out at Singleton south of Perth, for an emotional beach tribute to teenage shark attack victim Laeticia Brouwer.

The young surfer died on a family trip to Esperance over Easter, when she was attacked by a shark believed to be a great white while surfing at Kelp Beds.

Her devastated father Leon, who rushed to her aid after the attack, mother and two sisters hugged each other and one of Laeticia’s surfboards on the beach, as about 80 surfers paddled out into the waves and formed a ring in her honour.

Laeticia’s uncle Steve Evans recalled a girl who was always surfing or visiting the beach.

“The beach has always been a special place and she loved surfing with her sisters Alyssa and Eden and most of all her dad,” Mr Evans said.
