Ben Cousins refused bail on stalking charge because of ‘meth use, risk of reoffending’

Former AFL star Ben Cousins has been refused bail in a Perth court after being charged with aggravated stalking of his former partner and the mother of his children, after a magistrate said the risk he would reoffend was too high, given he was a “very heavy meth user”.

Cousins was arrested at a home in Melville last night by police.

Cousins’ lawyer Michael Tudori, today told the Perth Magistrates Court the protected person in a Violence Restraining Order (VRO), his former partner Maylea Tinecheff, was misusing it.

“She uses it when it suits her, and when it doesn’t, she contacts police,” he said.

Mr Tudori said Cousins just wanted to see his children.

The court heard according to the VRO, Cousins was not permitted to be within 50 metres of Ms Tinecheff.
