UFC 225: Robert Whittaker earns decision victory over Yoel Romero

Screenshot from 2018-06-10 16-03-46.png

Robert Whittaker has earned a razor-thin decision victory over Yoel Romero in an instant classic at UFC 225 in Chicago.

In one of the most dramatic fights of the year, the 27-year-old Australian was repeatedly dropped to the canvas by his hulking Cuban rival.

In the fifth and final round in particular, Whittaker (20-4) survived an astonishing amount of punishment on his way to a split decision win.

Two of the three judges ruled that the middleweight champion had done enough to win three of the five rounds.

There will be plenty of debate about the decision because Romero (13-3) had the most significant moments of the fight and he arguably deserved a 10-8 scorecard for the fifth round.

The UFC 225 main event was a rematch of the pair’s first meeting in July last year, which the Australian won on points after a five-round war.

It was supposed to be for Whittaker’s UFC middleweight championship, but the UFC removed the title from the equation after Romero missed weight.

A Photo of James Comey Takes the Internet by Storm

Doug Mills, the New York Times photographer who captured yesterday’s viral image of James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, seated before the Senate Intelligence Committee, is no stranger to the political spotlight. Since joining The Times in 2002, Mr. Mills has photographed presidential administrations — and the spectacles surrounding them — in Washington, aboard Air Force One, and in Afghanistan, among countless other locales. What follows is a lightly edited Q. and A. about his coverage Thursday from Capitol Hill.

Your photograph of Mr. Comey took the internet by storm — especially on Reddit, where it earned more than 60,000 “upvotes.” How did it come together?

I knew it wouldn’t be a contentious or heated hearing — or at least I didn’t expect it to be. Mr. Comey had handed out his testimony the day before, so some of the air was already out of the balloon. And for me, what that meant was: A tight shot showing one of Mr. Comey’s facial expressions wasn’t likely to be the most intriguing picture. (When hearings become heated and contentious, many times the witnesses become angry and their faces show a lot more emotion.)

Ahmad Fazelian, a provincial judiciary official, said the seven, suspected of “providing support for the terrorist team”, were detained in Fardis, about 50 km (31 miles) west of Tehran, the judiciary’s online news agency Mizan reported.

The photo was pulled from Instagram within two hours of being posted, causing Rose to tweet a video of herself rolling her eyes with the caption: ‘When IG deletes ur fire ass feminist post but you really don’t give a f*** because everyone picked it up already’
The 33-year-old managed to shock fans with the pic, even though they are used to seeing the former stripper in various states of undress on her own Instagram page and in photo shoots.

Rugby league player dies after collapsing on field

A player has died during a rugby league game at Ballina on the NSW north coast.

Zane Purcell, 29, was playing for the Lower Clarence Magpies’ reserve grade in their 2pm match against the Ballina Seagulls at Kingsford Smith Park on Sunday when he was involved in an awkward tackle shortly into the game.

Magpies club president Steve Austine said he died in hospital.

“All I can say is a player went in for a tackle, had a head clash, and he’s just fallen over,” he said.

Tributes flowed for the father-of-two on Facebook on Sunday evening, with teammates and family members extending their sympathies to his wife and young children.

In a statement, the Country Rugby League sent its condolences and said it would provide counselling for Mr Purcell’s family and both teams.

Bystanders, including an off-duty paramedic, came to his aid when he fell and performed CPR before an ambulance arrived…

Princess Diana secret tapes with Andrew Morton on Charles, Camilla

PRINCESS Diana revealed her sadness about her marriage to Prince Charles, his affair with Camilla and how she developed bulimia in secretly recorded tapes finally revealed.

Diana’s biographer, Andrew Morton, revealed to the Mail Online that she contacted him through a friend to offer him an interview with her for his controversial book on the royal couple.

In transcripts of the interview conducted by Morton in 1991, Diana claimed her bulimia started after Charles made a comment about her being “a bit chubby”.

Diana recalled a moment when Charles put his hand around her waist and commented on her weight. She claimed his comment, and the stress of knowing about his affair with Camilla, had led to her eating disorder…

New way to extend Moore’s law – IBM transistor that does not leak electrons

IBM unveils a transistor that does not leak electrons

ALL good things come to an end. Moore’s law—the observation that the number of transistors that can be crammed onto a chip of a given size doubles every two years—has built the modern, computerised world. But as transistors get smaller, making them smaller still gets harder. In recent years Moore’s law has begun to slow.

For all the fearsome complexity of computer chips, their basic components are simple. Transistors are nothing more than switches. To turn one on, a voltage is applied to part of it called a gate. This allows electrical current to flow through a channel between the transistor’s input and output. As transistors shrink, though, insulation breaks down and the current applying the voltage tends to leak away, reducing the gate’s ability to control the channel. One reason for this is a phenomenon called quantum tunnelling, in which the uncertainty of an electron’s position means it is sometimes found in another part of the transistor without having physically crossed there.
