Victoria shivers thro’ 2nd night of freezing temps. Frozen pipes cut water to houses as sub-zero temps
Frozen pipes cut off water to households as sub-zero or near zero temperatures were reported across Victoria on Sunday morning.
The day dawned with blue skies, but for those brave enough to peel back the Doona, it felt like being in a refrigerator.
The weather station at Coldstream near Lilydale recorded a bone-chilling -5.3 degrees before sunrise, the coldest July morning on record (24 years), while at Viewbank in Melbourne’s north-east the mercury plunged to -2.5 degrees at 7.30am.
Central Melbourne reported a second consecutive morning of near-freezing temperatures, with a low of -0.8 degrees recorded at 8am surpassing Saturday morning’s coldest morning in two years, of 1.1 degrees.
On Sunday, many areas in rural Victoria again shivered through epic lows.

Stunning Naked News presenters strip off and snog lads to raise money for charity
A SAUCY telly presenter who wowed fans by cooking, doing yoga and boxing in the nude has stripped off again – this time to raise money for charity.
Eila Adams and three of her Naked News pals hit the streets of Toronto in Canada with a mission to sell lemonade to thirsty punters.
Eila, 29, has previously teamed up with clothes-shy Miami TV host Jenny Scordamaglia on her cookery show Naked Kitchen.
The pair also got totally naked together for a yoga session last month.
And last week Eila and pal Isabella Rossini pulled no punches as they sparred on a beach wearing nothing but boxing gloves.
Eila is an anchor on Canadian TV station Naked News, which bills itself as “the programme with nothing to hide”.
Four of the show’s hosts went topless in Toronto for their lemonade challenge.

Ariana Grande’s gig for Manchester victims to be world’s biggest – with more viewers than Live Aid
MANCHESTER’S One Love benefit gig could become the most-watched to date — with more viewers than Live Aid. So far, at least 43 countries are on board to broadcast it live, with America’s ABC signin…
…Networks in China, Australia, South America and across Asia will also air the gig live and in full, with many more in talks.
The event will also be streamed online, meaning the total number of viewers around the world could surpass the estimated one billion who saw 1985’s Live Aid concert.
And it will eclipse the 600million who saw Nelson Mandela’s 70th birthday tribute concert in 1988.

Betting Agency Makes No Apology For Dopey Ad Infuriating Australia re Ben Johnson
The complaints come all the way from the top.
An Australian sports betting company is under fire for a TV ad starring former Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson, who was first across the line in the 100 metres sprint at the 1988 Seoul Olympics before testing positive for steroids and leaving the Games in disgrace.
Federal sports minister Greg Hunt has demanded the agency pull the ad, while the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) lodged a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority. It also issued a statement which in part said:
“This advert makes light of the use of performance enhancing drugs in sport and sends the completely wrong message that the use of drugs in sport is normal.
This advertising campaign belittles the achievements of clean athletes and denigrates those who work to protect clean sport across the world.”
But betting agency Sportsbet has scoffed at all that.
“We make no apologies for injecting some humor into advertising,” Sportsbet PR manager Christian Jantzen told HuffPost Australia.
“We wanted to express how fast our new unfairly fast Android app is and what better way than to use Ben Johnson?”
The ad promotes the new android app using a series of double entendres like “juiced up” and “performance enhancement” and “everyone’s on it” and “tested positive for speed” and “extra gear”, before culminating in the line “it puts the ‘roid into android”.
Here’s the ad in full.
Renowned anti-gambling campaigner Senator Nick Xenophon has also lodged a complaint. He said the ad was “just wrong on so many levels, glorifying a drug cheat, tying it in with gambling and promoting it to kids in a lighthearted way”.
Others, like Rio Olympic gold medallist Mack Horton, were similarly unimpressed.
But Sportsbet said the ad would continue to run. It said it had been cleared by ad classifier CAD and permitted to air at the same times as its other and retail ads.
“Sportsbet have no plans to pull the adverts from air. We’ve received overwhelmingly positive support from the public and they see it for what it is, a tongue-in-cheek joke,” the agency said in a statement.
“You only have to look at the comments on social media and news websites to see that the majority of Australians love this ad. The majority of people see the ad for what it is. Some have called the ads the best on TV at the moment and it’s hard to disagree with them.”
Johnson was reportedly paid $200,000 for his part in the ad.

Sydney op shop finds unexploded bomb in donation bin
A charity worker has made an unexpected discovery after finding an unexploded artillery shell – believed to have been used for years as a doorstop – covered in a woollen tea cosy.
The bomb was found at a northern Sydney op shop on Thursday morning by a volunteer rummaging through the weekly donations.
Police evacuated the store before the army was called in to dispose of the shell.
Fusion Australia worker Myf Webster told Daily Mail Australia the shell was dressed up in a crochet costume, which indicated it was likely used as a doorstop.
‘It was dressed up in a crochet doily with a hat and outfit, so we are assuming it was used as a doorstop for a long time,’ she said.
‘We think it was probably from a deceased estate and someone was clearing things out and bringing it all in.
‘I don’t know if they realised what they were bringing in.’
The discovery was made by volunteer of 25 years Phyl Ladd, who alerted Ms Webster when she arrived on Thursday morning.
Ms Webster then took a photo of the bomb with the top of its costume on, but said she was too scared to touch the bottom.
‘I took a photo [of the shell] and walked around to the local police station and they said ‘you better evacuate everyone from the building,’ which we did,’ Ms Webster said.
Police arrived about 11am and evacuated the store as a precaution, a police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
The police then called in the army who took possession of the shell.

Ms Ladd said she didn’t realise the ‘gravity of the situation’ when she found the shell until she removed its costume.
‘I remembered there was an amnesty on, so I told the other volunteers that we needed to call the police,’ Ms Ladd told Hornsby Advocate.
Ms Ladd said the shell was the most ‘unusual’ donation she had seen in 25 years of volunteering.

Federer will face Nadal in Miami Open final after dramatic victory over Nick Kyrgios
The polished diamond that is Roger Federer thrillingly saw off the gloriously unvarnished, unorthodox talent of Nick Kyrgios to make the final of the Miami Open.
After more than three hours of wonderfully varied combat that exceeded already heady expectations, he edged out the 21 year-old Australian 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 in more than three hours.
Aside from anything, it was another remarkable feat of endurance from the 35-year-old Swiss.

Lady Gaga will record vocals live for A Star is Born remake
Lady Gaga will record vocals live for A Star is Born remake
She’s set to start production on a contemporary remake of the classic A Star is Born, actually becoming the fourth actress to take the lead; the 1937 original, starring Janet Gaynor, has seen remakes starring both Judy Garland (1954) and Barbra Streisand (1976).
And, according to the film’s sound mixer, Gaga will be taking inspiration from both La La Land and Les MisΓ©rables‘ technique of utilising vocals recorded live on set, as a way of accessing rawer emotion.
