Police Raid Property After London Tube Terror Attack
An armed police operation is under way in Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, by police investigating the Parsons Green bombing, the Press Association has reported.
Residents in the Cavendish Road area of Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, have been told to leave their property, the Times And Star reported on Saturday.
The news comes after police on Saturday arrested at 18-year-old man in the ports at Dover in connection with the rush hour terror attack.

O-negative blood donors still desperately needed by the Australian Red Cross
The service’s Jennifer Campbell Case told the ABC that sick donors were cancelling their appointments, reducing the stocks of the universal blood type.
“Nationally about 1000 appointments are normally cancelled each day but over this cold and flu season it has spiked to 3000,” she said. “That’s unprecedented for us.”
Only 9 per cent of people have O-negative blood and the service says it still needs 2500 people to donate in the next fortnight to boost supply.
“On the few occasions we have, stock levels have balanced themselves out again very rapidly because Australian blood donors are so generous,”

Serena Williams congratulated on birth of baby girl
Tennis star Serena Williams has welcomed her first child, according to the US Open.
Williams, 35, went into labour a day earlier at St Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, it was reported.
The US Open’s official Twitter account tweeted a video with congratulations to the sporting champion from tennis pros around the world.
Stacey Allaster, chief executive of the United States Tennis Association, said: “Hey Serena, welcome to the best club in the world: motherhood.
“Can’t wait to see you, a mum, and your precious little healthy baby. Congrats!”
Spain’s tennis superstar, Rafael Nadal tweeted: “Congrats Serena! So much joy for you!”

Defending champion Kerber stunned by Japan’s Osaka
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Angelique Kerber became the second women’s defending champion to lose in the U.S. Open first round when she was crushed 6-3 6-1 by 19-year-old Japanese Naomi Osaka on Tuesday.
The German sixth seed, who has not won a title since winning at Flushing Meadows last year, never got into the match against the 2016 WTA newcomer of the year.
The last defending women’s champion to lose in the first round in New York was Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in 2005.

‘I-M-P-E-A-C-H’: Trump’s science envoy quits, with letter embedded with message
Daniel Kammen, a renewable energy expert appointed last year as a science envoy to the State Department, resigned on Wednesday, citing President Donald Trump’s response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, as the final straw that led to his departure.
In a resignation letter posted to Twitter, Kammen wrote that Trump’s remarks about the racial violence in Virginia had attacked “core values of the United States” and that it would have “domestic and international ramifications.”
However, his most biting message may have come in the form of a hidden acrostic; the first letter of each paragraph spelled out “I-M-P-E-A-C-H.”
Demonstrations by white supremacist groups on August 12 turned deadly after a neo-Nazi ploughed a car into a crowd, killing one counterprotester and injuring at least 19 other people in Charlottesville. Two police officers were also killed when their helicopter crashed.

60 immigrants found in refrigerated truck trailer in Texas
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection statement said nobody was hurt and the trucker was arrested at the Falfurrias checkpoint.
Agents on Saturday opened the padlocked trailer and found dozens of immigrants amid pallets of broccoli lined with ice. Customs officials say the temperature inside the trailer was 49 degrees (9 degrees Celsius). Some immigrants wore hooded heavy coats.
The immigrants — from Guatemala, Mexico, El Salvador and Hondurans — were detained and being processed for entering the U.S. illegally. The trucker faces immigrant smuggling charges.
Officials didn’t immediately say where the produce was headed or provide further details on the investigation.
Last week, Border Patrol agents found 16 immigrants locked inside a semitrailer at a gas station in the South Texas city of Edinburg and 20 immigrants crammed into a locked semitrailer at an Interstate 10 checkpoint southwest of El Paso. All were in good condition.
Last month, 10 people entering the U.S. died after being packed with as many as 90 other people into a sweltering tractor-trailer that was found outside a San Antonio Walmart.

TENS of Thousands take to streets in Boston to protest against right-wing ‘Free Speech’ rally
Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets of Boston to protest against a “Free Speech” rally featuring right-wing speakers, a week after a woman was killed at a white supremacist demonstration in Virginia.

Organisers of the rally had invited several far-right speakers who were confined to a small pen that police set up in the historic Boston Common park to keep the two sides separate.

The Boston rally never numbered more than a few dozen people, and its speakers could not be heard over the shouts of an estimated 40,000 counterprotesters.
Protesters surrounded people leaving the rally, shouting “shame” at them and occasionally throwing plastic water bottles.
Police escorted several rally participants through the crowds, sometimes struggling against protesters who tried to stop them.
Some 500 police officers placed barricades to prevent vehicles from entering the park.

Chaos across Sydney as wind shatters windows, halts flights
Parts of NSW have been buffeted by high winds, with two people injured by flying building cladding, glass left shattered in a CBD high-rise and Sydney Airport forced to cancel flights.
Severe damage has been reported across Sydney, and the NSW Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued a severe weather warning for Friday and Saturday.
At the entrance to Wynyard Station in the CBD, two people were injured when cladding was blown off a building in Clarence Street.
A man in his 30s suffered injuries to his foot, and a woman, also in her 30s, had injuries to her arm.

Any new Korean war could quickly escalate to catastrophe
Any new military conflict with North Korea would likely escalate quickly to the use of nuclear weapons, bringing catastrophic casualties not seen since World War Two and an untold economic impact worldwide, former U.S. defense officials and experts say.
While the United States has maintained an uneasy calm with North Korea for more than six decades and spikes in tensions are not new, recent supercharged rhetoric between the unpredictable U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un have heightened the risk of miscalculation that could make that nightmare a reality, they say.
On Thursday, North Korea upped the ante by saying it would complete plans by mid-August to fire four intermediate-range missiles over Japan to land near the U.S. Pacific island territory of Guam, after Trump said that any threats by Pyongyang would be “met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”
The exchange followed a United Nations resolution tightening sanctions on North Korea after it tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles designed to carry nuclear warheads to the United States.
Trump said on Thursday his fire and fury comment was not tough enough.
Despite the war of words, for now the U.S. military says there has been no change in its readiness posture in South Korea or elsewhere in Asia. Analysts say they have seen no evidence of any increased alert in North Korea.
But they warned the bluster could raise the risk of miscalculation that could result in conflict far beyond the scale of the 1950-53 Korean War, which claimed the lives of more than 50,000 Americans and millions of Koreans and ended in an armed truce, not a peace treaty…

Bolt beaten: Gatlin wins 100m sprint to spoil Jamaican’s swansong
Justin Gatlin ruined Usain Bolt’s farewell party when the 35-year-old American won the world 100m title on Sunday (AEST), beating the Jamaican superstar into third and sparking a chorus of boos from a London crowd unhappy with his doping past.
What was expected to be a glorious celebration of the departure of the sport’s greatest showman turned into a condemnation of its biggest pantomime villain as Gatlin, twice banned for drug offences, rolled back the years to win a second world title 12 years after his first and 13 after claiming Olympic 100m gold.
As so often before, Bolt, 30, made a terrible start but this time he could not make it up as Christian Coleman, the 21-year-old American who beat him in the semi-finals, looked set for victory.
But Gatlin, who stumbled at the death to lose the 2015 world final by a hundredth of a second to Bolt, on this occasion timed his surge and dip to perfection to win in 9.92 seconds.
Coleman, who has run over 40 races this year but turned professional only a few weeks ago, took silver in 9.94. Bolt finished in 9.95.

John Kelly, Trump’s new chief of staff, ‘won’t suffer idiots and fools’ – What about his Boss?
Twelve days after Donald Trump’s election victory, the president-elect asked John Kelly to meet with him at the stately Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., to discuss the roles of secretaries of State and Homeland Security.
It was a small gathering. Present was Reince Priebus, the Republican Party chair who later became White House chief of staff, a post that he resigned this week. Also attending was Steve Bannon, Trump’s chief strategist. Kelly, like other retired generals, impressed the president-elect, enough so that soon he’ll leave his post atop the Department of Homeland Security to replace Priebus in the West Wing.
That meeting last November launched what has become one of the president’s most important relationships within his beleaguered administration. He likes Kelly. He trusts Kelly. But what remains to be seen is whether Trump will listen to him as Kelly seeks to bring order to a White House beset by chaos…
