Israel removes flashpoint holy site metal detectors

Israel has removed metal detectors from outside a holy site in East Jerusalem after uproar from Palestinians over their recent introduction.

Israel’s security cabinet voted early on Tuesday to remove and replace them with less obtrusive surveillance.

There were deadly clashes after the metal detectors were set up, which Palestinians saw as an Israeli attempt to assert control over the site.

Israel said they were necessary to prevent weapons being smuggled in.

It followed the killing on 14 July of two Israeli policemen by Israeli-Arab gunmen, who police say had hidden their weapons on the hilltop site known to Jews as the Temple Mount and Muslims as Haram al-Sharif.

On Monday the UN’s Middle East envoy warned the tensions risked spreading “well beyond” the ancient city if the issue was not resolved by Friday, when Muslims traditionally go to the site in large numbers for prayers.

A statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the security cabinet accepted “the recommendation of all the security bodies to change the inspection with metal detectors to a security inspection based on advanced technologies and other means”.

Shark: Surfer knocked off board at Floreat Beach #Perth

A SURFER has been knocked off his board by a shark while out surfing at Floreat.

Surf Life Saving WA tweeted the surfer was ‘grazed’ by a shark about 1.10pm.

A 3m white shark was reported in the area shortly before the incident.

The surfer was not injured but beaches have been closed for 24 hours.

Fisheries officers are investigating the incident, which happened just after 1pm on Friday.

A Department of Fisheries shark warning has been extended to include all beaches between Scarborough and Fremantle due to increased shark activity and the presence of whale carcasses in the water.

London attack victims: Australian woman Kirsty Boden feared dead in terror rampage

SOUTH Australian health profession Kirsty Boden has been named as the suspected fourth Australian victim of the London terror attacks and is feared dead.

It is unclear whether Ms Boden was attacked at London Bridge or during the rampage that followed in the Borough Market area.

There are unconfirmed reports Ms Boden may have been going to the aid of another victim when she was attacked.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said he believes four Australians have been caught up in the attack. Two of them, including Miss Zelanak, remain unaccounted for after Candice Hedge and Andrew Morrison were found to be recovering from serious injuries.

It is understood Ms Boden is the previously unidentified Australian that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull referred to during a press conference earlier today…

Crying, screaming, fainting: Chaos as hundreds of Jetstar passengers are trapped for 2 HOURS

Passengers were left crying, screaming and fainting on a Melbourne-bound Jetstar plane, after it was stranded on a Phuket runway for more than two hours without air-conditioning.

Flight JQ18 had just finished boarding at Phuket Airport on Friday night when the power unit that controls the air-conditioning broke.

Hundreds of passengers were trapped on the stifling plane as engineers worked to resolve the issue.

Cabin crew members handed out cold water, but up to five people fainted or suffered other medical conditions, according to one passenger.

‘People were not let off the plane for two hours … and as a result approximately five people fainted or suffered other medical conditions,’ the passenger posted to Jetstar Australia’s Facebook.

‘People were fainting, screaming, crying, and having massive panic attacks and yelling at staff to let them off but the captain didn’t,’ another passenger said, according to the Herald Sun.

Finally after people continued to scream out to open the doors and one bloke fainted and started tripping out and a teenage girl began to have breathing issues, the decision was made to let passengers off.’

After disembarking the aircraft, passengers reported waiting at the gate for further information, only to discover via e-mail that the plane was delayed until 4pm Saturday.

A Jetstar spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that passengers were taken to nearby hotels after another ‘technical issue’ was found.

‘The combination of technical issues with the aircraft and a customer needing to get off due to a medical condition meant a lengthy delay to the flight back from Phuket,’ he said.

‘The ground power unit which had the technical fault controls the air conditioning unit so it was quite warm on the aircraft.

‘We apologise to all customers and thank them for their patience.’

The spokesperson said passengers can request a refund if they would not like to travel.

Ex-stockbroker jailed for attacking his wife with an AXE in a shopping centre as their children looked on

A former stockbroker has been jailed for seven years for attacking his wife with an axe in a busy shopping centre in front of their two children.

Last month a jury found Tasmanian man William Henry Richardson guilty of grievous bodily harm, but not guilty of attempted murder.

Richardson attacked his wife with an axe at Shoreline Plaza in Howrah, Hobart in March last year.

On the day of the attack, Richardson had run into his family at the shopping centre by chance.

He then took his shopping outside to his car, before coming back to purchase an axe from a store inside the centre.

He used the axe to attack his wife as their children looked on. Richardson struck his wife five times in the head and body.

The court heard evidence Richardson’s wife needed ongoing psychological treatment and feared for her family’s safety, Justice Stephen Estcourt said.

The act was ‘aggressively committed’ and the ‘extent of ongoing remorse was not evident,’ Justice Estcourt said on Wednesday.

Richardson will serve at least four-and-a-half years in prison before being eligible for parole.

Trump’s Far-Right Supporters Turn on Him Over Syria Strike

Some of President Trump’s most ardent campaign supporters were among his most vocal opponents on Thursday after he ordered the missile strike against Syria, charging him with breaking his promise to keep the United States out of another conflict in the Middle East.

Prominent writers and bloggers on the far right attacked Mr. Trump. They accused him of turning against his voters by waging an attack that he had for years said would be a terrible idea. They also criticized him for launching the strike without first seeking congressional approval — something he said on Twitter in 2013 would be a “big mistake.”

The most vocal in their outrage were leaders from the small but influential white nationalist movement.
