Two police officers and a member of the public have risked life and limb to pull a man free from a burning car after it rolled in Gympie, north of Brisbane.

Senior Constable Kevin Mayo and Constable Jeremy Gardiol were called to the single-vehicle crash on Chappel Street about 7:00am on Wednesday, where they found the car on its side, with smoke billowing from the engine.

With the flames building, the two long-time Gympie patrol officers used their batons and kicked the windscreen to smash through and free the man inside and drag him to safety, with help from a passer-by.

The 73-year-old driver and sole occupant was taken to Gympie Hospital with minor head injuries.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze a short time later.

Senior Sergeant Greg Davey was full of praise for the rescuers.

“There was a heap of smoke, it was imminent that it was going to burst in to flames at any time,” Senior Sergeant Davey said.

Roger Smith, Star of ’77 Sunset Strip,’ Dies at Age 84

Actor Roger Smith, who brought glamour to the TV detective genre as a hip private eye on “77 Sunset Strip,” has died. He was 84.

Jack Gilardi, who is the agent of Smith’s widow, actress Ann-Margret, said the actor died Sunday morning at a Los Angeles hospital after battling a terminal illness. Smith had battled the nerve disease myasthenia gravis for many years.

From 1958 to 1963, he co-starred with Efrem Zimbalist Jr. on the glossy ABC series. It made stars of both men and a teen heartthrob out of Edd Byrnes, who played a colorful parking lot attendant named Kookie.

“77 Sunset Strip” had been created by producer-writer Roy Huggins, who also created “Maverick,” and it spawned a host of spinoffs and knockoffs, including “Hawaiian Eye,” ”Surfside 6″ and “Bourbon Street Beat.”

South Australian nurse Kirsty Boden, 28, was on London Bridge when she was attacked by terrorists who carried out the attack that left seven people dead just after 10pm on Saturday, local time.

In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, Ms Boden’s family said she was “loved and adored by family, friends and her boyfriend.

“We love you and we miss you dearly,” they said. “Helping people was what she loved to do in her job as a nurse and her daily life.”

They said she ran towards where the attack had taken place to help others already injured.

“We are so proud of Kirsty’s actions which demonstrate how selfless, caring and heroic she was. Not only on that night but throughout her life.”

The news comes as the third attacker has been named as Moroccan Italian, Yousseff Zaghba.

BREAKING: US may withdraw from UN Human Rights Council

The U.S. is likely this week to warn the United Nations Human Rights Council that it may withdraw due to “anti-Israel bias,” Reuters reported Monday.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is visiting Geneva this week for the council’s sessions, where she plans to call for reforms.

“Our understanding is that it is going to be a message of engagement and reform,” John Fisher, who leads Human Rights Watch in Geneva, said.

Haley in an op-ed for The Washington Post on Friday said she planned to outline necessary changes to the council during her visit to Geneva this week.

“The council must also end its practice of wrongly singling out Israel for criticism,” Haley wrote.

“When the council passes more than 70 resolutions against Israel, a country with a strong human rights record, and just seven resolutions against Iran, a country with an abysmal human rights record, you know something is seriously wrong.”

Qatar Paid Al-Qaeda $1BN In Hostage Deal to release members of the Gulf state’s royal family

Qatar Paid Al-Qaeda, Iran $1BN In Hostage Deal

The FT has unveiled what its believes is the key trigger behind the shocking overnight collapse in diplomatic relations between Qatar and its Gulf neighbors. According to the FT, the catalyst that forced the Saudis and their allies to unveil the cut in diplomatic and economic ties, is that Qatar allegedly paid up to $1 billion to Iran and al-Qaeda affiliates “to release members of the Gulf state’s royal family who were kidnapped in Iraq while on a hunting trip, according to people involved in the hostage deal“; the secret deal was allegedly one of the triggers behind Gulf states’ dramatic decision to cut ties with Doha.

The details of the payoff: “around $700m was paid both to Iranian figures and the regional Shia militias they support, according to regional government officials. They added that $200m to $300m went to Islamist groups in Syria, most of that to Tahrir al-Sham, a group with links to al-Qaeda.

The Associated Press just destroyed Donald Trump in 19 words

trumpap.jpgThe Associated Press, a multinational newswire based in New York, has written a damning introduction to a story about the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. The introduction reads: President Donald Trump can’t be counted on to give accurate information to Americans when violent acts are unfolding abroad.

President Donald Trump can’t be counted on to give accurate information to Americans when violent acts are unfolding abroad.

Obviously, it turned a few heads.

It comes after a series of tone-deaf and ill-informed tweets following the London Bridge and Borough Market attack which killed seven and injured 48 people on Saturday night.

The article fact checks Trump’s recent comments on attacks abroad, including a shooting in the Philippines which he incorrectly referred to as a “terrorist attack”.

Notably, the article points out that Trump tweeted…

Trump, Gore and hacking: House of Cards hits the big notes

After a couple of seasons where the faith of even the most die-hard House of Cards fan was tested, it’s refreshingly back to basics in the latest episodes.

Sure, some of the plot lines are just as implausible as earlier in the series but the scripts and pacing return us to the halcyon days of seasons one and two, when Frank Underwood was truly running amok in Washington.

It’s lean and Frank is truly mean.

Here is a recap of episodes 1-6 with spoilers ahead.

London attack victims: Australian woman Kirsty Boden feared dead in terror rampage

SOUTH Australian health profession Kirsty Boden has been named as the suspected fourth Australian victim of the London terror attacks and is feared dead.

It is unclear whether Ms Boden was attacked at London Bridge or during the rampage that followed in the Borough Market area.

There are unconfirmed reports Ms Boden may have been going to the aid of another victim when she was attacked.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said he believes four Australians have been caught up in the attack. Two of them, including Miss Zelanak, remain unaccounted for after Candice Hedge and Andrew Morrison were found to be recovering from serious injuries.

It is understood Ms Boden is the previously unidentified Australian that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull referred to during a press conference earlier today…
