Victoria has scored a crushing win in the first-ever AFLW State of Origin at Docklands, beating the Allies side by 97 points on Saturday night. The Vics led by seven points at quarter-time, but they were far too strong from that point on, and ran out winners by 17.11 (113) to 2.4 (16).
Skipper Daisy Pearce was the star for Victoria, racking up 37 disposals and marshalling the Vics admirably in a dominant performance. The Allies’ Jess Wuetschner’s tackle earned a holding the ball call and she then kicked the opening goal, but after a string of early opportunities for the visitors, the home side hit back and quickly went in front.
The second quarter was where Victoria made the big move. Jasmine Garner grabbed the team’s third goal, and then a goal to Moana Hope boosted the lead to 19 points midway through the term.
The Allies needed a goal badly, and when Hayley Miller hit Tayla Harris on a lead, the former Brisbane star converted to keep the visitors in the mix.But Victoria hit back with a snap from Sarah D’Arcy and the lead was back to 20 points…
