Ali Fahour punch: Former AFL diversity manager charged over on-field incident

ALI Fahour has been charged over the on-field punch that cost him his job with the AFL.

The former diversity manager was hit with a 14-match suspension over the incident involving Whittlesea opponent Dale Saddington on Saturday during a match in the Northern Football League.

A Victoria Police spokesman said: “A 35-year-old Preston man has been charged on summons with intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury and unlawful assault following an incident in Whittlesea on 1 July.

“He is due to appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates Court on October 11, 2017.”

The suspension triggered a lifetime ban from football for the West Preston-Lakeside player.

AFL chief Gillon McLachlan accepted his resignation this week.

The AFL chief fronted the media yesterday where he announced Fahour would be replaced by Grant Williams on an interim basis until a new appointment was made.
