Special counsel Mueller asks White House for Flynn documents: New York Times

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Investigators working for U.S. special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating whether President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia, have asked the White House for documents related to his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, the New York Times reported on Friday.

“Though not a formal subpoena, the document request is the first known instance of Mr. Mueller’s team asking the White House to hand over records,” said the Times, which cited unnamed people close to the investigation for the report.

The Times also said the investigators had questioned witnesses about whether Flynn was secretly paid by the Turkish government during the final months of the 2016 campaign.

The White House and Flynn’s lawyer, Robert Kelner, did not immediately respond to requests from Reuters for comment.

The Times quoted Ty Cobb, special counsel to Trump, as saying “We’ve said before we’re collaborating with the special counsel on an ongoing basis.”

Trump has denied any collusion between his campaign and Russia and called the investigation a witch hunt.

The Republican president fired Flynn in February after it became clear that he had falsely characterized the nature of phone conversations he had with the Russian ambassador to Washington in December.

Reuters reported in June that according to a subpoena, federal prosecutors in Virginia were investigating a deal between Flynn and Turkish businessman Ekim Alptekin as part of a grand jury criminal probe. [nL1N1IZ171]

Alptekin’s company, Netherlands-based Inovo BV, paid the now-inactive Flynn Intel Group $530,000 between September and November 2016 to produce a documentary and research on Fethullah Gulen, an exiled Turkish cleric living in the United States. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan blames Gulen for a failed coup last year.

$12 million Chinese-built bridge in Kenya collapsed before it was completed

Structure was recently inspected by the president.

It was an embarrassing collapse for Kenya’s ruling party.

Just two weeks after an “inspection” by President Uhuru Kenyatta, a $12 million Chinese-built Sigiri bridge in Western Kenya collapsed before it was completed.
Built by the Chinese Overseas Construction and Engineering Company in Busia County, the bridge connects a region that has historically lacked government investment and development. Around a dozen people died on the river after a boat capsized while attempting to cross in 2014.
President Kenyatta’s Jubileee Coalition has made infrastructure development a key pillar of its reelection strategy ahead of the coming presidential election.

Chinese state is with its new massive solar-powered drone. The plane called Caihong can stay airborne at “near space” levels for months if not years.

It is now one of the most advanced unmanned aircraft of its type.

During a top secret test flight in northwest China last week it reached a new high of 65,000ft in altitude.

Speaking to chinadaily.com,  Shi Wen, head of unmanned aircraft development at the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics, said usually a fuel powered military drone could fly a maximum of about 26,000 ft.

Aussie Jason Peter Darragh on 11 charges over ‘drunken sprees’ in Singapore

A PERTH man has reportedly been charged for breaking the law on multiple occasions during several drunken sprees in Singapore, with a total of 11 charges against him.

The Straits Times reports that Jason Peter Darragh, 44, is believed to be the man seen tussling with policemen at Changi Airport last month, an incident which was captured in two videos that went viral online.

Police subdued man resisting arrest

Mr Darragh allegedly started his crime spree at the departure hall of Changi Airport Terminal 2 between 12.15am and 12.30am local time on April 20.

He allegedly threw a man’s mobile phone on the floor and used vulgar language on him.

When two policemen, Inspector Elzac Lim Chee Keong and Senior Staff Sergeant Koh See Yong, came forward, Mr Darragh is said to have pushed the officers and threatened them.

He is also accused of hitting Senior Staff Sgt Koh in the face, reports the paper.

Mr Darragh was offered bail of $20,000 and will be back in court on Friday.

Trump: no ‘climate change’ in Earth Day message. [aren’t Dinosaurs extinct?]

President Donald Trump’s Earth Day message greatly differed in tone from his predecessor by not mentioning climate change. He focused on jobs in the message from Washington, D.C.

This point was reiterated later in a somewhat defensive tweet. Trump said: ‘I am committed to keeping our air and water clean but always remember that economic growth enhances environmental protection. Jobs matter!’

By comparison, last year President Obama’s message in 2016 took on an urgent tone and said: ‘Human activity is disrupting the climate, and the challenge of combating climate change is one that will define the contours of our time.’

However Obama did not mention climate change in 2010 or 2012 statements, important midterm and general election years, according to AOL.

President Bush also pointed to climate change in his 2009 Earth Day statement: ‘We are taking positive steps to confront the important challenge of climate change. Our work is not done.’

President Trump’s administration, executive orders and tweets indicate he is not a believer in climate change.

Samsung Galaxy S8 review: It’s the best Android smartphone yet +

samsung-galaxy-s8-4-0.jpg

Feel that tension in the air? It’s the quiet-but-pressurised noise of Samsung executives holding their breath as they wait to see if the new Galaxy S8 is the success they so badly need it to be.  After the Galaxy Note 7 had to be withdrawn last autumn because of safety issues, the S8 really must not fail. I’ve been using the S8 and its larger sibling, the S8+ for a week. So, is it sigh of relief or hard, disappointed exhale for the execs?

The look of the Galaxy S8 is a refinement of the Galaxy Note 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Note that the edge name has disappeared: if you buy an S8, you’re getting one with Samsung’s distinctive sloping-edged screen, the option for the more conventional flat-edged screen isn’t available this time around.

The gloss black finish on the rear of the Midnight Black version of the phone is similar to the iPhone 7’s Jet Black option. The difference here is that Apple’s phone is made of aluminium polished so finely it looks like glass. This is glass. It doesn’t pick up fingerprints quite as quickly as the iPhone 7 Jet Black, either. It’s also available in Arctic Silver and Orchid Grey, which has a slightly purplish tinge.

The slopes on the screen are mirrored by curved edges on the back of the phone which make the phone fit the hand brilliantly. The edges are super-smooth, the join between screen and chassis almost too subtle to feel.

The phone looks spectacular: classy and elegant in a way Samsung has never come close to before – easily the most opulent phone the company has released. It’s a head-turning, tactile beauty.

There’s a lot to admire, from the flush rear camera to the understated company logo on the rear – there’s no room for the name on the front, there’s so much screen there…

Avengers: Infinity War could be the most expensive film ever made | The Independent

home-nolights.jpg

As anyone who has been to the cinema recently will tell you, superhero films are so hot right now. Today, Logan finally reaches cinemas. Next up is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Then Spider-Man: Homecoming. Oh, and Wonder Women. Then Thor: Ragnarok. And Justice League somewhere in there.

It should come as no surprise that these films have an incredibly high budget, often around the $200 million mark.

However, the upcoming Avengers films – Infinity War and another as-yet-untitled fourth film – will reportedly have an unprecedented budget of $1 billion.
