Perth ballerina Lauren Perrett lands dream job dancing at Moulin Rouge in Paris

PERTH ballerina Lauren Perrett said she is “living the dream” as a dancer at the Moulin Rouge in Paris. But it hasn’t gone without its mishaps.

The 19-year-old, who has performed more the 100 shows at the coveted cabaret house in the past two months, has had a few stumbles.

She made a memorable entrance at her stage debut when she fell as she was about to tackle the can-can.

“It was so funny because I ran on stage first, and I just slid a few metres, got up and continued kicking but I couldn’t stop laughing,” she said. “Some audience members were laughing too.”

She has also fallen during the finale of her shows, admitting: “Because we wear huge pink feather backpacks and when you kick your leg, sometimes you fall back with it.”

Perrett, pictured, recently had quite a serious fall, but maintained her sense of humour.

Honda halts Japan car plant after WannaCry virus hits computer network

Honda Motor Co (7267.T) said on Wednesday it halted production at a domestic vehicle plant for a day this week after finding the WannaCry ransomware that struck globally last month in its computer network.

The automaker shut production on Monday at its Sayama plant, northwest of Tokyo, which produces models including the Accord sedan, Odyssey Minivan and Step Wagon compact multipurpose vehicle and has a daily output of around 1,000 vehicles.

Honda discovered on Sunday that the virus had affected networks across Japan, North America, Europe, China and other regions, a spokeswoman said, despite efforts to secure its systems in mid-May when the virus caused widespread disruption at plants, hospitals and shops worldwide.

Production at other plants operated by the automaker had not been affected, and regular operations had resumed at the Sayama plant on Tuesday, she said.

The spread of the WannaCry ransomware which locked up more than 200,000 computers in more than 150 countries has slowed since last month, but security experts have warned that new versions of the worm may strike.

Rival automakers Renault SA (RENA.PA) and Nissan Motor Co (7201.T) were also affected by the virus last month, when the automaking alliance companies stopped production at plants in Japan, Britain, France, Romania and India.

SPOILER: Better Call Saul: “Chicanery” Review

In “Chicanery” Jimmy and Kim finally, go to court against Chuck and Hamlin in court, how will Jimmy get himself out of this one in Better Call Saul

Title: Better Call Saul: “Chicanery”

Air Date: May 8st, 2017

Network: AMC

Genre: Drama, Crime-Thriller

Better Call Saul’s brilliance lies in its subtlety and patience. “Chicanery” is easily the best episode of this season, and it’s as a result of everything that came before it.

For the first time in a long time, and the first time this season, the entire episode is devoted to Jimmy’s story arc. I love Mike’s storyline and I think it has amazing scenes and builds up, but sometimes they can take away from the pace and timing of the story being told about our main character.

Everything that took place in this episode was there for a reason, even if it wasn’t plain to see at first. Rebecca has been a key part to the not only Chucks current state – as they reference later – but to the complicated nature of the relationship between the two Mcgill brothers.

Better Call Saul has consistently done a fantastic job of garnering sympathy for Chuck, despite everything that is currently going on between him and Jimmy, as well as his condescending and smug attitude at times. It’s not the first time they’ve shown Chuck reacting to an electromagnetic pulse and giving perspective on how he feels via camera work and sound, but this one was one of the harder to watch given the situation.

The whole thing is wrapped up in a nice painful bow even before Chuck throws the phone and doesn’t admit to his condition. Like a lot of Better Call Saul – being that it is a prequel – we as the audience already knew that Chuck and Rebecca are divorced, but seeing scenes like this and Jimmy’s role in them substantiates just how bad current situation and relationship are at the current point in Better Call Saul.

Not only is Jimmy helping Chuck lie, even offering him the advice that “From personal experience, the bigger the lie, the harder it can be to dig out,” you can see how happy he is for Chuck when their conversation is going well and how troubled he is when he hears the phone ring.

The show, don’t tell approach to all of this, and everything they’ve shown in previous episodes made everything that occurred leading up to and during the trial that much more satisfying and simultaneously tragic.

There are so many things done in this episode that lead up to it, that it feels more like a math equation than the climax to a television plot line. First, there is the given insight into Chuck practicing his lines for the court, stating “I love my brother” and what not in different ways, and writing them off because it wouldn’t sound sincere to the court. Thus making all the statements he’s said in previous episodes feel just as insincere.

Then there’s all the planning and misdirection on Kim and Jimmy’s part. Flying Rebecca in, sending her the photo’s, using the photos in court and all after Chuck’s defense of play acting allowed jimmy to make his mental health relevant, allowing him to use evidence. All on the surface made to seem like it was, in reality, Jimmy’s main plan to have Chuck breakdown.

But the return of the greatest character of all time – HUEL’S BACK BABY – spelled otherwise, but not before even more misdirection. Despite everything Chuck says to confirm he harbors a grudge against Jimmy for everything he did when he was young, especially stealing from his father’s business, the scene is still hard to watch. The solemn look on everyone’s face, and Chucks attempt to compose himself after breaking down, again, despite all he’s done to our beloved main character, made me feel for Chuck.

On a side note, considering how Chuck took getting a single number wrong for the Mesa Verde file, the fallout from this might not only explain why the older Mcgill brother isn’t in Breaking Bad, it may also put jimmy over the edge, depending on what Chuck does.

Breaking Bad can keep its drug trade and murder drama as a means of enticing viewers, it’s episodes like Chicanery that support my statement that Better Call Saul is the better of the two shows.

How this plastic-munching caterpillar could help save the earth

This wax worm can actually break down a non-biodegradable substance.

Even the smallest among us can be big heroes. Take the lowly wax worm, for instance.

The larva of the greater wax moth is considered a huge pest in Europe, because it acts as a parasite in bee colonies.
However, its bizarre eating habits may help solve a huge environmental problem.
See, the wax worm is apparently not averse to eating plastic. An amateur beekeeper in Spain discovered this when she plucked some of the pests from her beehives and put them in a plastic bag. The worms eventually ate little holes in the bag, chewing through the plastic at an alarming rate.
This led to a wonderful idea: What if these so-called pests could actually help break down polyethylene, a common and non-biodegradable plastic currently clogging up landfills around the world?

How good are these little grubs?

The beekeeper is actually Federica Bertocchini, a scientist at the Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology of Cantabria. She and two researchers from the University of Cambridge’s Department of Biochemistry put together a study to see just how good these little grubs were at passing the plastic, so to speak.
The answer? Very. The team found the wax worms broke down polyethylene plastic bags faster than other recently-tested methods. There are still more tests that need to be done, but if scientists can replicate whatever causes the breakdown, if could be used to alleviate the burden of non-biodegradable waste…

Commonwealth Games could be held in Perth in 2022, WA Minister suggests after Durban dumped

Commonwealth Games could be held in Perth in 2022, WA Minister suggests after Durban dumped

Western Australia’s new Sports Minister Mick Murray believes it would be a good idea for Perth to step in and bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, but admits the state’s dire finances may not allow it.

Durban was this week stripped of the right to stage the 2022 Games after missing deadlines and financial problems.

Melbourne, which hosted the Games in 2006, has expressed an interest in stepping in as a replacement, as have the English cities of Birmingham and Liverpool.

The Gold Coast has also said it would be prepared to come to the rescue and hold the Commonwealth Games twice in a row if asked.
