Terrified plane passengers sat on the Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport tarmac for more than 80 minutes waiting for police to tell them if they had a bomb on board.
A man claimed to have explosives on Malaysia Airlines flight MH128 30 minutes after it took off on Wednesday night, forcing the plane to land.
Former AFL player Andrew Leoncelli says the man had a “boombox” the size of a watermelon before passengers tackled him and held him down.
“We don’t know what that thing at the front of the plane is; until we do, everyone’s on edge,” Mr Leoncelli told 3AW on Thursday.
He said passengers sat on the tarmac for more than 80 minutes waiting for police to come on board, even though they had been told the man was subdued.
“They have not been well organised at all,” Mr Leoncelli said.
Victoria Police Superintendent Tony Langdon would not say how long police waited to board the plane.
