A burning building in downtown Sao Paulo has collapsed as firefighters worked to put out a fire that began in the middle of the night.
Firefighters said they believed there were victims in the building but did not yet know how many.
Images on social media showed the multi-storey building falling on itself as flames rage.
Debris could be seen smashing into the ground on surrounding streets.
Local media outlets reported the building was formally a headquarters for the federal police but had been abandoned for many years and was frequently occupied by squatters.
Firefighter Andre Elias told Globo TV they expected to find victims.

WA weathers second hottest April on record and driest in 24 years as summer bleeds into autumn
Western Australia has experienced its second-warmest April on record, with a number of spots across the state recording their hottest-ever day for the month.
Across the state, last month’s maximum temperatures were 2.99 degrees Celsius above average, making it the second highest April on record behind 1981.
The hot April may come as a surprise to Perth residents, coming off the back of an unseasonably mild summer in which not one day above 40C was recorded.

Tigerair passengers face delays over pilot dispute
TIGERAIR passengers could face delays and flight disruptions this weekend after pilots threatened protected industrial action on Friday unless a deal could be reached over their working conditions by tomorrow.
The industrial action at the low-cost airline would include pilots refusing to perform duties not prescribed on their originally published roster, not accepting duty call outs on rostered days off or annual leave days and refusing to fly aircraft with any permissible un-serviceability as described in the minimum equipment list.

Police arrest three people after man killed, woman stabbed at Berwick rooming house
Police have arrested three people after a man was killed in Melbourne’s south-east last night.
Police were called to a rooming house in Wilson Street, Berwick, shortly before 10:00pm to investigate reports of an assault.
They found a woman with stab wounds and a man with injuries.
Both were treated at the scene, but the man died a short time later.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the woman was taken to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition with upper body injuries.
Police arrested three people nearby and are now interviewing them.
Homicide squad detectives are at the scene and have cordoned off part of Wilson Street.
No charges have been laid.
A coroner’s van arrived about 7:00am to take away the man’s body.
Neighbours said the property used to be an aged care facility but became a rooming house several years ago.
Breaking; CBA forced to put aside $1 billion extra by bank regulator APRA
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority has slammed the Commonwealth Bank over events leading to allegations that it broke anti-money laundering and counter terrorism financing laws on almost 54,000 occasions.
In its final report into governance, accountability and culture at the CBA, APRA said the bank’s “continued financial success dulled the senses of the institution”.
The report found the CBA had a “widespread sense of complacency, a reactive stance in dealing with risks, being insular and not learning from experience and mistakes.”
APRA also pointed to an “overly-collegial and collaborative working environment” which lessened the opportunity for constructive criticism.
Responding to APRA’s report, the CBA has acknowledged the regulator’s concerns and has offered an enforceable undertaking in response to the report.

Japan sends biggest warship to protect US supply vessel
Japan has dispatched its biggest warship, in the first such operation since it passed controversial laws expanding the role of its military.
The helicopter carrier Izumo is escorting a US supply vessel within Japanese waters.
The US ship is heading to refuel the naval fleet in the region, including the Carl Vinson aircraft carrier group.
North Korea has threatened to sink the Carl Vinson and a US submarine, amid rising tensions in the region.
It also carried out a failed missile test on Sunday, despite repeated warnings from the US and others to stop its nuclear and missile activity.

The BBC’s Rupert Wingfield-Hayes in Tokyo says the Izumo is the pride of the Japanese navy, and is by far its biggest ship.
The 249m-long Izumo can carry up to nine helicopters, and resembles US amphibious assault carriers, reported The Japan Times.
Kyodo news agency said it was leaving its base in Yokosuka south of Tokyo to join the US supply ship, and accompany it to waters off Shikoku in western Japan.
Under Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan is gradually pushing the limits of what its modern and powerful military is allowed to do, and with tensions high on the Korean peninsula, Mr Abe appears keen to try out the new laws for the first time, our correspondent says.

Australian of the Year finalist stole hundreds of thousands in public money, inquiry hears
The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is investigating allegations Eman Sharobeem misused a credit card and submitted invoices for money she was not entitled to when she was CEO of the Immigrant Women’s Health Service (IWHS) and the Non-English Speaking Housing Women’s scheme (NESH).
Both were non-profit groups funded by the New South Wales Government.
She is also accused of lying about having psychology degrees to further her career.
The Counsel Assisting the inquiry, Ramesh Rajalingam, said the alleged corrupt conduct occurred in the 10 years prior to 2016.
He said it related to hundreds of thousands of dollars, including around $400,000 for shopping and personal services.
“They were both organisations originally set up to provide funding and support to essentially women and children from disadvantaged and low socio-economic groups,” he said.
Stolen funds spent on ‘jewellery, clothing’, inquiry hears
The inquiry heard that between 2009 and 2015, reimbursements of more than $400,000 were made to Ms Sharobeem’s personal accounts from IWHS.
They were for groceries, men’s products, jewellery, clothing, hair and beauty services, penalty notices and State Debt Recovery Office enforcement orders.
The receipts she sought reimbursement for were from Harvey Norman, Bing Lee, Eye Concept, Andrews Designer Jewellery, Eternity Jewellers, Lily Room Cosmetics, S&S Hair & Beauty, IKEA, David Jones, Myer, Bonnyrigg Garden Centre and also for dental work.
“Public funds were effectively used for the purchase of a Mercedes Benz registered in the name of Ms Sharobeem’s husband Haiman Hammo,” the Counsel Assisting told the inquiry.
Ms Sharobeem also allegedly used a IWHS credit card for payments to Fitness First, Lite ‘N’ Easy and Foxtel for herself or family members.
“She also used the IWHS credit card to make payments to Sydney Water for services connected to a number of properties she opened,” Mr Rajalingam said.
He said the money included reimbursements “even where retailers had refunded the amount”.
He said that in addition to her salary, Ms Sharobeem fraudulently claimed around $100,000 in facilitation fees from IWHS and NESH and she submitted false time sheets in made-up names.
She is also accused of authorising payments to accounts in the names of her sons, Charlie and Richard Sharobeem.
Home renovated with public money, inquiry hears
The inquiry heard Ms Sharobeem used more than $52,000 in government money to renovate her Fairfield home which she purchased in 2011 for $660,000 and sold for $1.3 million in 2016.
In addition, Ms Sharobeem is accused of falsifying health services statistics to get more government funding and dishonestly authorising substantial payments from NESH to her own accounts….

These were the chaotic scenes on board an Aeroflot plane as major turbulence threw passengers all over the cabin on a flight between Russia and Thailand.
At least 20 people – including three babies – suffered major injuries including suspected broken spines in the carnage which happened en route from Moscow to Bangkok.
Dramatic video shows passengers lying injured in the aisle after they were hurled up to the ceiling.
The babies were thrown out of their mothers’ arms by the force of the severe turbulence one hour before landing in Bangkok, said a source.
People walking in the aisle and without seat belts on were injured.
Luggage as well as food and drink from the trolleys was strewn all over the cabin.
Evgenia Zibrova posted a shocking video with the comment: ‘Numerous air pockets one hour before landing led to broken bones, internal and external bleeding.
‘Babies are covered in bruises, people lost consciousness. Thanks that we are still alive. Aeroflot, please help these people.’
Vladimir Sosnov, deputy head of Russian Consulate in Thailand, said: ‘The injured suffered multiple fractures. There are both Russian and foreign citizens among them.’
He said: ‘Apparently, those who were injured did not have their seat belts fastened.’
The plane – a Boeing 777 and packed with tourists – hit several successive areas of turbulence en route to Bangkok.
The flight crew kept control of the aircraft and the injured passengers were rushed to hospital on arrival in the Thai capital.
A source said 19 people were hospitalised in Bangkok, with two undergoing urgent surgery.
Others were treated with first aid after the incident on board flight SU 270.
A source told Interfax: ‘A Boeing 777 plane suddenly got into the zone of strong turbulence before starting to descend.
‘There had been no order to fasten seat belts at that moment.
‘As a result, the plane was jolted by hundreds of metres, and some passengers were thrown into the space between the chairs suffering traumas.’
The Russian embassy is providing assistance to the injured passengers.

Uber driver told woman he was in ISIS + wanted to blow up Parliament + shopping centre
A young woman has been left terrified after her Uber driver allegedly refused to take her home before rambling about being part of Islamic State and wanting to blow up Parliament House.
The 26-year-old, who chose to remain unnamed, ordered an Uber to go to Theodore in Canberra’s south on Saturday after a night out with friends, but was told by her driver he was taking her to Cooma, 100 kilometres away.
After he ‘asked if she’d ever eaten human flesh,’ and said he wanted to bomb a major shopping centre, she asked him to pull over at a service station to use the bathroom.
‘I banged on the window for the girl to let me in,’ the woman wrote on a Facebook post.
The Canberra woman said she rang triple-0 during the car ride and put it on loudspeaker, but they hung up after a minute.
‘He [said] he had his own ISIS-related organisation and how he was going to bomb Parliament House and the Canberra centre,’ she said.
‘I asked him how long until I’m home and he said: “I’m not taking you home, I’m going to Cooma”.
‘I was terrified! I called 000 and sat with my phone on my lap hoping that the police may intervene hearing the guy speak about bombs and ISIS’.
At the service station in Hume, she called police again just after 2am and officers arrived to speak to the driver.
He allegedly told them he was ‘joking to wind [her] up’.
Police have confirmed the driver is being investigated and he has been banned from driving with Uber until ‘allegations are assessed’.

A man meets a woman off a dating website and ends up in bed with her.
The scene, which is taken from the first chapter of the 2001 book, takes an unexpected turn when the woman swallows the man whole with her vagina.
The woman is no mortal as she is Bilquis, who in Gaiman’s universe is a goddess based on the biblical character more commonly known as the Queen of Sheba.
Meanwhile, a storm is brewing in Starz’s gritty new series American Gods, as deities old and new gear up for a battle that reverberates with topical issues in the real world.
Immigration, race, religion and sexuality are all examined in ‘merican Gods through the saga of Shadow Moon, a convict who is released to the news of his wife’s death. He is hired to be the bodyguard of an old grifter named Mr. Wednesday, the disguise of the Norse god Odin.
The series is based on British author Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel of the same name, a surreal story of how the old gods of folklore struggle to be revered and remembered in an age of new gods like technology and media.

Perth Man trapped in SAS barracks construction site accident
A MAN has been trapped in a construction accident at the Special Air Service regiment headquarters at Swanbourne.
Specialist firefighters and ambulance officers are working to treat the man who is trapped near the bottom of a big pipe in a construction area inside Campbell Barracks.
The man is believed to be a construction worker aged in his mid-twenties.
He was working in a plumbing pit when the big concrete pipe fell on him at the bottom of a pit about four metres deep.
Ambulance officers holding a drip are attending to the man, who appears to be trapped.A stretcher was being prepared in a bid to move the man, who is understood to have significant injuries.
