Trump facing new threat as a plan bill to trigger 25th Amendment in bid to oust him
The draft bill, authored by Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland, who is also a constitutional law professor, would activate an investigation into whether Mr Trump has been too far “incapacitated” to continue as President. He would see to do so by making use of parts of the 25th Amendment.
The amendment was adopted in 1967 in response to the assassination of President John F Kennedy and other previous presidential medical crises. It deals with the temporary transfer of power from the president to the vice president, and has been used when Ronald Reagan and George W Bush underwent surgeries…

Tesla is scheduled to disclose global vehicle sales for the second quarter as early as Monday morning. The company is projected to have sold 23,655 vehicles during the three-month period, according to the average estimate of four analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal.
The Model 3 is part of Mr. Musk’s strategy to boost production next year to 500,000 from about 84,000 last year, turning the auto maker into a more mainstream player from a niche luxury brand. General Motors Co. , for example, sold 10 million vehicles last year.

Is this the end of Al Jazeera? We should know within 48 hours
Qatar has been given an extra 48 hours to comply with a list of demands issued by Arab nations that have cut ties to the country, including that news network Al Jazeera be shut down.
It’s the worst diplomatic crisis in the region since Iraq’s 1990 invasion of Kuwait, and has seen Qataris expelled from Gulf countries and transport links with the country cut.
What are the demands?
They include:
- Limiting diplomatic ties to Iran
- Severing ties to all “terrorist organisations”, including the Muslim Brotherhood and Lebanon’s Hezbollah
- Expelling Turkish troops now stationed in Qatar
- Paying reparations of an unknown amount and submitting to auditing
As well, Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates want Qatar’s international news network Al Jazeera to be shut down.
Qatar has previously rejected the demands as violations of its sovereignty.
Al Jazeera is accused of being a platform for extremists and interfering in the affairs of Arab nations, but the television network denies these claims.
It has called the demand to shut it down “nothing but an attempt to silence the freedom of expression in the region”.
“We assert our right to practice our journalism professionally without bowing to pressure from any government or authority,” the network said last month.
“We demand that governments respect the freedom of media to allow journalists to continue to do their jobs free of intimidation, threats, and fearmongering.”

Suicide bomber dressed as woman kills 14 in Iraq refugee camp
A police officer who died in the attack had become suspicious about the attacker and walked up to him to embrace him – apparently as a way of sacrificing himself to minimise the number of casualties – and the attacker detonated the explosives as he did so. That police colonel and another 13 people are now dead, said Councilman Taha Abdul-Ghani.
Mr Abdul-Ghani says the attack took place at dusk on Sunday as authorities were accommodating families that had fled from the Islamic State-held town of Qaim.
There was no official claim of responsibility for the attack, though suspicion fell immediately on Isis. The group has been pushed almost entirely out of Anbar, where the attack took place, and Iraqi forces now in the final stages of a major offensive in the northern city of Mosul.

Cyclist hater Ben Smith jailed for eight years over death of father-of-three Steve Jarvie
Today Ben Smith, 27, was sentenced to a non-parole period of 5 ½ years for the manslaughter of father-of-three Steve Jarvie who was left to die on the side of the Old Pacific Highway at Cowan in February 2013.
But before Judge Mark Buscombe read out Smith’s sentence, he revealed his criminal history which showed he has been caught twice for excessive speeding, high-range drink driving and was on bail at the time of Mr Jarvie’s death after being charged with offensive behaviour, resisting arrest and destroying property.
And less than a month after killing Mr Jarvie, Smith was then caught for mid-range drink driving.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal that while Smith was awaiting trial he was charged with driving under the influence of drugs in November last year.
Truck slams into Armadale house – significantly damaged
Emergency crews were called out to the home on Burnside Road in Mount Richon around 3pm on Monday.
According to a Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson, the unmanned truck rolled down a hill, went through a fence and crashed into the home.
It’s believed the truck’s handbrake failed with the driver not inside at the time.
It remains unclear if anyone was inside the Mount Richon home. Luckily no one was injured in the crash.
SES volunteers have been called to the home, while power and gas has been cut to the home as emergency crews work at the scene.
The rescue helicopter has also been sent to the scene of a separate crash south of Armadale.
According to police, a vehicle rolled on the Albany Highway just after 3pm with up to four people inside.
Emergency crews are on their way to the scene.

New Jersey governor Chris Christie shuts down beach, spends day lounging on it with family
“That’s where my family is sleeping so that’s where I’ll sleep,” he said. “When I have a choice between sleeping with my family or sleeping alone, I generally like to sleep where my family is.”
The governor was photographed by NJ.com sitting with his family on a beach chair in sandals and a T-shirt before flying to talk to reporters in Trenton, where he worked without result to end the shutdown.
During the news conference, Christie was asked if he had gotten any sun that day, to which he said he didn’t, NJ.com reported. The governor’s spokesman agreed that Christie didn’t get any sun; he said Christie was wearing a baseball hat…

State of emergency declared for New York’s subway as Governor pledges $1 billion
The Governor of New York has declared a state of emergency for the ageing, frequently failing subway system in New York City.
Speaking two days after a derailment injured at least 34 people, Andrew Cuomo said he was planning to sign an order to speed up efforts to improve the system and that the “current state of decline is wholly unacceptable”.
“One of the processes we’re going to expedite is the MTA procurement process. I’ll ask the comptroller and the attorney general for a special team to expedite the process,” he said, referring to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority that oversees the city’s vast subway system. “But it will no longer be a tortured exercise to do business with the MTA.”

Microsoft is laying off ‘thousands’ of staff in a major global reorganization
Microsoft is poised to layoff thousands of employees worldwide in a move to reorganize its salesforce.
A source with knowledge of the planned downsizing told TechCrunch that the U.S. firm would lay off “thousands” of staff across the world. The restructuring is set to include an organizational merger that involves its enterprise customer unit and one or more of its SME-focused divisions. The changes are set to be announced this coming week, we understand.
Microsoft declined to comment.
Earlier this weekend, the Puget Sound Business Journal, Bloomberg and The Seattle Times all reported ‘major’ layoffs related to a move to increase the emphasis on cloud services within Microsoft’s sales teams worldwide. Bloomberg said the redundancies would be “some of the most significant in the sales force in years.”
The reorganization looks to be a result of a change of leadership this past year. Executives Judson Althoff and Jean-Philippe Courtois took charge of Microsoft’s sales and marketing divisions following the exit of long-serving COO Kevin Turner last summer. Althoff, for one, has been public in his criticism of previous sales approaches, and he is keen to make Azure a central part of the focus.

Tom Price teens left without parents after horror Great Northern Highway crash
A Police spokesman said a road train and the family were both travelling on the Great Northern Highway as a third vehicle was heading in the opposite direction about 150km south of Port Hedland after 3pm on Friday.
The spokesman said the parents died as a result of their injuries.
The two children were taken to hospital but it is understood were not injured in the crash.
A GoFundMe campaign set up by Narelle Johnson described the couple as active community members who would have done anything to support the town.
The page has raised nearly $10,000 overnight. A second page has also racked up about $4,000 for the two children.
