Trump’s Entire arts and humanities council members just quit
Actor Kal Penn, artist Chuck Close and the entire membership of the President’s Committee On the Arts and Humanities have announced their resignation. A letter dated Friday, and signed by 16 of 17 committee members, cited the “false equivalence” of President Donald Trump’s comments about last weekend’s “Unite the Right” gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia. Trump has blamed “many sides” for the demonstrations that left an anti-racism activist dead.
“Ignoring your hateful rhetoric would have made us complicit in your words and actions,” the letter reads. “Supremacy, discrimination, and vitriol are not American values. Your values are not American values. We must be better than this. We are better than this. If this is not clear to you, then we call on you to resign your office, too.”
The only member whose name did not appear was Broadway director George C. Wolfe. Representatives for Wolfe at Creative Arts Agency said Friday that he was also resigning and that his name would be added to the letter, which seemed to contain a hidden political message beyond the ones stated openly. The first initials of the letter’s six main paragraphs spell out “r-e-s-i-s-t.”
Earlier this week, two business advisory councils were disbanded as members left in protest.
The arts and humanities committee was established in 1982 under President Ronald Reagan and, with the first lady serving as honorary chair, works with both government and private agencies in promoting the arts through such programs as Turnaround Arts and Save America’s Treasures. Others signing the resignation letter included Pulitzer Prize winning author Jhumpa Lahiri; and Vicki Kennedy, widow of Edward M. Kennedy. All were appointed by President Barack Obama.

Couple having sex at the races: Video goes viral
Marissa Sonkur, 22, was secretly filmed getting intimate behind a beer tent at packed Kelso Racecourse — about an hour outside of Edinburgh.
The sex tape, which shows the half-naked couple in the act, was later posted online.
Marissa, of Hawick, Roxburghshire, told pals: “It’s not the classiest thing I’ve ever done.”
The hairdresser was so mortified she hid from her mum for a week.
One of Marissa’s friends said: “Marissa ended up staying with a friend for a week because she couldn’t face her parents after it got out.
“It wasn’t just a one-time thing — she has been seeing the guy for a while.
“Everyone had a few drinks and then they left the tent together to get some privacy.
“But we think one of his pals followed them and recorded part of it without their knowledge.
“Everyone has seen it and her whole family know about the video, even her gran.
“She was totally gutted.
“She knows she was kind of in the wrong but this person should never have filmed it — it’s creepy.”

Australian man dead after falling down a ravine on Fox Glacier, New Zealand
AN Australian man has died after falling down a steep ravine in New Zealand’s South Island.
The 66-year-old man was on a hunting trip with his son in the Fox Glacier Valley on Wednesday when he fell down the ravine located 1800 metres up in the Westland Ranges.
The New Zealand Herald reported the pair, who arrived in New Zealand on the weekend, became separated around midday.
The son is believed to have found his father at the bottom of the ravine about an hour later. He suffered serious head injuries.

Serena Williams’s Pregnancy Is Confirmed After Day of Speculation
Serena Williams appeared to inadvertently reveal on social media on Wednesday that she is pregnant. A photograph on her Snapchat story showed Williams posing sideways in a yellow bathing suit with a protruding stomach. The image, which appeared to be taken into a mirror, was captioned “20 weeks.”
The photo was later deleted, but a spokeswoman for Williams, Kelly Bush Novak, confirmed that she was indeed pregnant. “I’m happy to confirm that Serena is expecting a baby this fall,” Novak said in a statement. She added that Williams will not play again this year but was looking forward to doing so in 2018.

Pope Francis Has Harsh Words For People Who Text During Dinner. + I AGREE, bad manners
Your family and friends may hate it when you text at the dinner table, but there’s no way they’re as extreme as Pope Francis.
The pope decried technology’s prominent seat at the dinner table in a speech to university students in Rome on Friday, according to People magazine.
“When we’re at the table, when we are speaking to others on our telephones, it’s the start of war because there is no dialogue,” he said.
